I have accomplished absolutely nothing today.

Unless you count picking my dad up from Scranton. Which I don't.

So, here ...

Hey, look, a meme! )

Hmm.

So I just sat down and watched the first two episodes of The Listener, which I would have watched last night if I'm A Celebrity and So You Think You Can Dance hadn't gotten in the way of that. (Okay, SYTYCD was the only one that got in the way, but it meant missing the first episode, which made watching the second episode a bit silly.)

Anyway, I give it a tentative thumbs up, but with reservations.

Pros and cons )

I'm not giving it a thumbs-down. I'm just saying it's ... inoffensive, I guess. I'll give it another week or two to grow into its shoes, but ... well, it just better, is all I'm saying.

Okay, back to the writing and betaing and whatnot.

I'm so mean.

Good luck getting that song out of your head now that your inner ten-year-old won't stop singing it. ;)

SO.

I've been spending the past couple of days banging my head against a wall, not so much because I don't know what I'm doing or where I'm going, but because I had a nice pattern going and I screwed it up by writing the dialogue for this one first so I can write the action around it. And this chapter is loooong comparatively, so that's making my brain throw a tantrum and want to stomp off.

Fuck it, next chapter I'm writing as I go like I did with previous chapters.

*squeak*

I am not a big video game fan. I'm usually okay with Tetris or sudoku, and I have the first few Harry Potter computer games, and I have a handful of NES ROMS on a CD somewhere that I keep forgetting to put on my netbook, possibly because I know damn well I'll never get anything done if I do that.

Having said all of that:

GIMME.

... oops.

Spotted on Not Always Right, from a coffee shop ...

(Note: I’m a customer and overhear this exchange while waiting in line.)

Barista: “Here’s your change… have a nice day.”

Customer: “You know, you haven’t smiled once.”

Barista: “Sorry.”

Customer: “I’m so sick of the attitude of people in the service industry! Is it so hard to give your customers a smile as you’re pouring water through beans? You all are so arrogant, it makes me sick!”

Barista: *eyes begin to well up*

Customer: “Why aren’t you smiling?!”

Barista: “…because my father died last night.”

(At this point, you could hear a pin drop. The customer is literally glared out of the shop, forgetting her coffee.)
