I'm unhappy and hate myself. Who knew?

Oh, you've got to be fucking kidding me.

You want to know why I get tattoos? Because I was the kind of goofy kid who liked to draw on her arms and hands with markers and that shit washes away. It's that simple.

And you know what? I'm really sick of the fucking argument that when I get old, the tattoos are going to look awful when wrinkles make my skin sag. Hey, guess what? When old age makes my skin sag, everything's going to look like hell. Quite frankly, with my family history, I'll be lucky if I get that old, but let's not even get into that.

I love my tattoos. That lady can feel free to fuck off.

Well, I'm thoroughly enraged now.

Well, this lady is clearly stupid, and not just for the tattoo business. Apparently, in her little corner of the world, 20% is 1/4.

"20% of women" ... "And so one in four girls..."

Idiot.

[identity profile] secretbutterfly.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh. I can't even get past the first page of that stupid wench's ranting. She doesn't even have her facts straight. Cause Drew Barrymore doesn't have daises around her ankle, she has a cross with flowers growing on it near her ankle.
Not the most important detail but if she's going to bitch about tattoos she may as well attempt to know what the fuck she's talking about.
She apaprently never considered people get them to represent something important in their lives and not to 'look fashionable.'
Cunt.

So we can assume that those earrings she's wearing are clip-ons.

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Yeah, I noticed that, too. :)

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK you. I was thinking about that exact same thing. (Well, more like, "So let me get this straight -- my tats make me a victim, but my pierced ears don't?")

[identity profile] anne-jumps.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, can it, lady.

[identity profile] prodigal7512.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
You and me both. *glare*

[identity profile] eiluned.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[snerk] What a wanky bitch. Yep, my tattoo makes me seriously unemployable, especially when my boss, three coworkers, and the freaking assistant dean all cooed over my tat this afternoon.

I'll bet they fire me on Monday. [snerk]

[identity profile] malhablada.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Pfft, that lady is full of condensed owl shit. Could she honestly say that this isn't beautiful?

[identity profile] mcee.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
quite simply, body art is a projection of unhappiness and self-loathing.

... WHAT?

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
She apaprently never considered people get them to represent something important in their lives and not to 'look fashionable.'

Amen. I picked all of my tattoos for personal reasons -- my love of writing, fantasy, paganism. It's all things that mean something to me. And the ones I have planned -- Shakespeare's signature, a Siamese kitten, the characters from the Books of Boggs -- follow in that same vein.

If I wanted to be trendy, I'd spend outrageous amounts of money on uncomfortable shoes.

[identity profile] supesfan88.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:44 pm (UTC)(link)
the writer of the article looks like Pamela Wallin and she just frigin scares me to death so ... I never really got pastthe first paragraph...

[identity profile] kayim.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm 100% with you. I love my tattoo more than I thought possible. And I'm *still* going to go on Saturday and get my second one!

And besides, by the time my skin gets saggy (or saggier!) there will be plenty of ways of removing tattoos - should I want them removed.

Not that my ankle or wrist are going to sag too much :)

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
All of mine can be covered up with a nice dress shirt with elbow-length sleeves if need be. I don't plan on getting anything too obtrusive until I get published.

But yeah, seconded. The first boss I had after I got the LotR tat thought it was awesome, because -- surprise! -- some bosses have tattoos, too. You'd be amazed how often bosses will judge you more on your ability to DO YOUR JOB than on a needle's worth of ink.

[identity profile] missmp.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Angelina Jolie has a Latin tattoo on her stomach which says: "What nourishes me also destroys me."

She also has one below her neck that says "Know your Rights," which is pretty fucking awesome. Interesting that anti-tattoo lady didn't mention that one.

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's just gorgeous.

(I think the most beautiful tattoo I've ever seen on a woman was art from "Where The Wild Things Are" on a thigh and hip. It was amazing.)

*blinks* I hate it when people like that throw words like "psychologists" around and think that makes their argument for them. Seriously, body art is body art, not self-harm. It's all in the intentions. The context of an action is often more important than the action itself. Argh. *screams*

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm keeping my tattoos forever. I'm going to be the coolest grandma on the block. :)

[identity profile] thalionar.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
no f'ing shit! I love my tattoos, they're part of me, and I didn't need them to fill some gaping hole in my damaged psyche, they are celebrations.

Stupid cow.
bubblesbrnaid: (wtf)

[personal profile] bubblesbrnaid 2006-06-22 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have what she's smoking, please.

Christ. If they think the tattoos will look bad in 40 years, imagine what my *scars* are going to look like.

[identity profile] malhablada.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I'm going to have to try to find it and check it out then. I'm sure it's gorgeous, like the rest of the illustrations from that book.

If it wouldn't be an absolute cultural abomination, I'd really want to get an irezumi body suit, like the woman in the picture has. Unfortunately, I can't even pretend the connection to Japanese cultural it would take to pull off that kind of art.

[identity profile] kayim.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
My seven year old daughter already thinks I'm a cool mum thanks to my tattoo and my love of superheroes!

Come on over to my journal (http://kayim.livejournal.com/109364.html) and join in the tattoo discussion! I want to know what you have and where!

*eye rolls* I wonder if she tells women who get tattoos to cover their mastectomy scars that they're mutiltating themselves to be cool.

[identity profile] fortuna-juvat.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 06:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no problem calling this art. It's fucking beautiful and obviously has meaning to the wearer.

Her idea of Art is probably Thomas Kinkade.
