Boosting this from Penknife ...

... because let's face it. It being summer, the fannishness has fallen by the wayside, and I hate that.

So, I want to talk about fannish things in this space again. Badly.

Comment here with a fannish topic or question, and I will talk about it. You know my fandoms -- Supernatural, Grey's Anatomy, Ugly Betty, The Office, Project Runway, Top Chef, America's Got Talent (yes, I KNOW), Heroes, Dexter, X-Men movieverse and anything else you know I've written fic for.

Anything. I will talk about anything as long as it is fannish and not about this LJ mess. (And if you say "chan," I will thwap you.)

Oh, man, I still haven't even gotten to read the first two books! I really have to go get a library card again so that I can at least try to get a hold of them.

They're apparently very good, according to a friend of mine. I won't be picking them up because I like the show too much - a guy I know has a similar attitude about the Harry Potter movies in that he won't read the books because he's perfectly entertained by their adaptations.

My personal rule of thumb is, when I discover this thing I want to watch is based on a book, I have better luck in enjoying both versions of the story if I see the movie/series first and then go back to the book. Because I can't think of anything besides The Witches of Eastwick that I hated the book for after having seen the movie, but definitely I could be listing lots of movies that were wrecked for me or others by being familiar with the book versions first.

On Dexter, I saw the whole of the first season and then found the two books at the library. And the season covered the first book, so now I'm maybe spoiled for the new season, but. Given the differences between the first book and season, I'm thinking I'll be able to separate the two versions in my head easily enough.
