And a shiny and happy good morning to you, too.

Ah, nothing like starting my four-day weekend by hearing one of my best friends, an avowed Republican, refer to my personal favorite presidential candidate as "Hussein Obama."

*sigh*

The fail, it attacks Tokyo.

Clinton's the only one with a better middle name than a first name. Her middle name is Diane.

Seriously, what's up with the American political arena when people are judged by their middle names or what their names sound vaguely like, rather that the content of their policies?

*sigh* "Soundbite America" sucks.

In Obama's case, I think it's just the neocons trying to scare America into believing that a characteristically Islamic middle name = Islamic faith = sympathy with Arabs = terrorist. Some of the fundies have even gone one better than that and have started an e-mail proclaiming the man to be the prophesied Antichrist.

Take a look at all the urban legends starting about Obama:

Trust me, I think I've heard most of 'em, given that I've been an Obama supporter almost since before Edwards dropped out of the race. Typical neocon tactics -- use fear and distortion to spook those who don't have the time or interest to follow politics all that closely into the viewpoints they want.

"We report, you decide." Feh. *eyeroll*
