No question about it. I just think that in dealing with the overall change in tone of the show, I'm worried less about any potential increase in that word over the others.

For Dean in particular, I classify it with his use of "gay" and "pussy" and all his uses of feminine based insults against Sam. Is it offensive? Does it make me cringe every time he says it?

Hell yes.

That said, those are things I think have *always* been perfectly in character for Dean. He is a sexist jerk, and I don't think we're going to get away from that without an overhaul of his character.

There's a difference between using the phrases to establish character though, and the radical jump we've seen so far this season. Slut, skank and whore -- especially in the volume we've been getting them? Offensive *and* out of character in my opinion, which means that it's in there strictly for shock value.

And that's not okay. SPN isn't "great" television in the strictest definition of the word, but it's always been had more integrity than I see them showing these days.
