apocalypsos: (boo misbehave)

Okay, that's it.

Tell me something awesome about a woman you love in any fandom. Wax poetic. I want to hear people talk about what they love about female characters. And try to pick female characters or women in RPF who haven't already gotten love so we can spread it around.

And no bashing other people's comments!

You know what? I'm picking Boo. Yeah, okay, she's a very tiny woman. Who cares? She's silly and fun and adorable, and looking at an icon of her always makes me feel better, and she learns how to be brave right before our eyes. I heart that so much that I really wish I had the time to rewatch Monsters Inc. before I leave for work, but I don't, damn it.

Now you go. :)

EDIT: Guys, if you want to do more than one character, go nuts. The more, the merrier, right? \o/

Really? I seriously don't know a single woman on my flist and in real life who don;t think that Starbuck isn;t awesome.

and at least three have an icon of starbuck with this phrase on it.

Nani! Oh my God, I cried like a baby when she took Lilo to the hummock to tell her the social workers were going to take her away in the morning, and ended up singing to her instead. Her frustration and helplessness was so realistic. Nani was awesome.

It does my geeky heart good to see this here. There's not enough I-Man love to go around these days.

Betty from Dead Like Me. She was so genuine and true in the way she lived her 'life'. Betty really helped bring George fully into the Reaper world.

And Daisy from DLM as well. The way various facets of her character are revealed throughout the show is brilliant. She's a real bitch, but then we finally get to see just how cracked she is underneath her perfect veneer. Beautifully written flawed woman.

Aeryn Sun of Farscape because she is awesome. She is a fighter, a soldier but she is also a woman who is so brave. She looked at the end of her own world and forged a new path, she changed when she could have so easily laid down. Aeryn always fought for what she believed in. And Aeryn Sun never let pain stop her loving John Critchon.

Gods, I love her so very much.

P.S. Because OMFG! She had one arm with a baby and the other holding a gun. She is awesome.

Hell yes OC.

In other Dark Angel love, how about a shoutout for Renfro? Scary, sinister and snarky -- she's running her own game, and I love that everybody is nervous about her, even Lydecker.

Kes - Lovely voice. Lives such a short life, decided to dedicate it to those crazy Voyager dorks even though chances were she'd never see them home. Loved the spotty little fuzzy trader. Was one of the first, if not the first, to realize the Doctor was fully human despite him being made of photons.

Rahne Sinclaire/Wolfsbane, see icon - Decades of character development. Started out as self-hating Catholic girl type afraid of her own shadow, not to mention her wolf powers. Scared silly at Rio De Janerio crowd of sunbathers.

Defining moment in Excalibur where, believing a young mutant to be in danger, she went barreling through town, despite basically wearing a skimpy one piece/uniform. There just wasn't enough -time- to change. Someone might be in danger.

Yeah, there was a time she lost her accent and fashion sense and went around the U.S. getting in bar fights but hells, she lost her home and mom to homicidal mutant terrorists. She's better now. Well, last time I looked in on her.

Dani Moonster; Rahne's best friend. Native American and -damned- proud of it. Helped bring Rahne out of her shell. Once faced down Death itself for a guy who pushed her around.

Zig-Zag from Sabrina Online: Runs an entire damn company all be herself, not ashamed to tell people it's a porno company, dresses up nice, can easily go from Serious Business to flashing the delivery boy.

Omaha The Cat Dancer: Whole message of series 'Sex isn't inherently evil'.

Every single woman on the 'Lost in Space' movie: Just because.

Once threatened to arrest a bunch of onlookers because they didn't help her overcome paralyzing needles.

Trixie! Joanie! Jewel! Totally. I wasn't a big Jane fan, but she totally belongs on the list. I recently watched all of Deadwood myself. Have you noticed the predominance of women on the writing staff? It was surprising. It looks like it was half and half, Milch notwithstanding. But when it's not David Milch himself, women wrote more episodes than men.

[identity profile] squee1123.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. I was going to add that I loved her in You're Welcome because she was the ONLY ONE to get Angel back on track. I sob every time I see the very last scene of that episode.

[identity profile] spectralbovine.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
!!!!!!!!!

I love Cimorene. And those books.

[identity profile] lots42.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
One of the eighty-four billion reasons Nani is awesome because she is awesome without an inflated chest. And the hips. Rrrow.

Plus the episode where she makes sure Lilo knows it is bad to go back in time.

[identity profile] spectralbovine.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you not read them?? They're some of my favorites ever. So much love. And Cimorene rocks.

Re: Doctor Who

[identity profile] lots42.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I admit, I didn't like her in her first appereance, but she's just so much more mentally together then any of the recent companions. I would if any Doctor/Recent Companion pair showed up to save my butt but I'd pick Doctor/Donna in a heartbeat.

Tooooooooooooooooooph. And everyone else! Azula will kick everyone's ass in her sleep and look damn good while doing it. And then Ty Lee will do a cartwheel.

Hell hath no fury like a mid-forties woman pissed off.

1. Kaylee from Firefly. I love Kaylee because she isn't as strong or skilled or brave as Zoe and River, but she fights just the same. She's unashamed of her sexuality, comfortable in her own skin, not afraid to show love and stand up to authority, and not afraid to stand up to men and tell them they're wrong in a job considered masculine.

2. Eretria from The Elfstones of Shannara. Eretria comes from a sexist Rover society, and somehow makes it work to her advantage. She's beautiful and sensual, and not afraid to use both to further her goals, but she also knows they aren't the only thing she has. She's smart, brave and tenacious, going after what (and who) she wants with determination.

[identity profile] lots42.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
All the gals from Bones. Not afraid to state feelings, state being scared shitless and yell at the men when they fuck up.

[identity profile] 12-12-12.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I love Claire Bennet. Because even though they saddled her with West in Season 2, they still couldn't make me stop loving her for her sheer awesomeness. She's brave, strong, forthright, independent, loyal, smart, and yet still flawed and human. She's walked through fire, gone through some of the worst things a person can face, and she's still standing. I love her.

I love Angela Petrelli for both meta and non-meta reasons. Meta reasons: because she's an older woman who's portrayed as being both sexy and intelligent, and given significant screentime on the show--something that's all too rare in primetime TV. Non-meta reasons: because she's smarter than everyone else on the show put together. Because she's always got a Plan B. Because you never know quite what she's thinking. Because she loves her sons but isn't above using them to achieve her Machiavellian aims. Because she never apologizes for who she is. In short, because she is the Queen Bee and she Rules All.

Best Uhura novel is 'Uhura's Song'. Bonus, it has furries in it.

Cimmorene was one of my earliest heroines, and still one of my favorites. She was just so... awesome. And there was Mendenbar, who was also awesome in his own mild and somewhat dorky/kingly way, and he fell for her *because* she was awesome and used a sword and hung around dragons and could argue magic and *had commonsense.*

Ultimately, it was the commonsense that got me. ::sigh:: I miss that series.

[identity profile] lots42.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
There is very little about MJ that is not awesome. One of my favorite scenes is in the Inferno crossover where, without any superhero help whatsoever, she organizes the staff and customers of a small retail store into a defensive demon-fighting force. Granted, the demons exploded with one good hit but still, rock.

[identity profile] lots42.livejournal.com 2008-05-20 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
She gave up Superman level powers (she gave up walking) simply because the guy offering it no strings attached was scum. Coool.

She takes those characteristics and makes them awesome and shows how those so called flaws make her powerful.

YES THAT EXACTLY.

I liked both Ana AND Kate. I'm not going to get into my current feelings on Kate though. Because its about women we love.

I love Juliet from Lost. She went to some unknown island to, what was it? Help to try and cure cancer or something. I don't really remember. She wanted to help women like her sister had been helped, I think. And she got held HOSTAGE there and the man she fell in love with was murdered and she fell into the same boat as Ana with the distrust. And she's awesome under pressure. I like her. I like her A LOT.
