Happiness is ...

Dear God, I know I don't believe in you, but the last time there was a possibility of a Chinese place in town we never got it. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? *bats eyelashes heavenward*

Speaking as a Chinese American, I am so sorry for you! My gosh, next you'll be telling me you don't have Mexican food, either!

Dude, we're lucky we have a pizza place. And it's not even a good pizza place. *pouts*

Ever heard of Indigo Som's Chinese Restaurant Project? She's trying to chronicle Chinese restaurants found in out of the way places in the States.

Your post reminded me of some of the thoughts I've had in the past about the role of Chinese restaurants and American social history. I grew up as the Chinese-American daughter of restaurant owners.

I heard about her project a couple of years ago, and I just googled her now. There is also Jennifer Lee's book--The Fortune Cookie Chronicles--which I think is supposed to be more of history type thing. It's on the to-read list.

Anyway, this was a weird tangent to take your post on, but it's where my head's been lately.
