I've had two children who were, thank Darwin, basically healthy. But I will never ever forget the day I came out of my first 20-week sonogram and looked at Avi and said, "The reason they looked at our baby's brain is because they were worried THERE MIGHT NOT BE ONE." And we just stared at each other and had a quiet freakout.

I cannot imagine the hell of realizing your baby is absolutely going to die and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. To force a woman to continue to carry that baby is a cruelty I also cannot imagine.

I saw a friend's sister just last week. Some years ago, she had a fetus die at about five months. The hospital sent her home and she had to carry that baby for several days. I cried for her and I barely even knew her.

Edit: Oh fuck. I just realized something. I always wondered why the hospital sent her home instead of doing something and I just realized that she was at a CATHOLIC HOSPITAL. I wonder if they refused to remove the dead fetus. ::considers heading over there to choke a bitch at this late date::
