One teeny weeny, eensy weensy upside is that the water pump (on older vehicles) is one of the less expensive parts to replace.

paradoxymoron has a good point. if you have no choice but to keep the car, you might have to try to do some things yourself. A waterpump is a pain in the ass to switch out, but not impossible for a regular person.
