*whimpers some more* It's so quiet.

Except for the "City Confidential" about Dungeons and Dragons dorks killing one of their stepfathers. Sheesh.

Anyway, the good news -- my MP3 CD player still works. \o/

The bad news -- the Zen took pretty much all of my music with it. I can survive on Pandora at home, but when I go to the movies tomorrow and maybe the mall and Starbucks afterwards, I need new music or I'll start to twitch.

So, this is where I beg. Anybody got any good music they could YSI my way? *bats eyelashes*

What I like: Er, I can't really point to a specific band or a genre of music. I like songs for atmosphere, the things I can picture when I close my eyes and listen to them. Let's see ... Dance music with good beats. My latest additions to my dance mix -- "Caught Up" by Usher, "Sexy Back", the Pussycat Dolls, and yes, I realize they're dorky and popular, and no, I don't care, because if it's something that's fun to dance to, I like it. Indian dance music is FABULOUS. Hard rock that sounds like the kind of stuff that would make a great ass-kicking vid soundtrack, but not too loud and harsh -- I loathe System of the Down, for example. Instrumental songs, film scores, or songs with lyrics not in English with spooky or dark moods -- they make for great writing music. I'm not a HUGE fan of country music, particularly drippy love songs, but the twangy, "We're wearing cowboy boots drinking longnecks in a bar with our buddies! WOOHOO!" kind of songs can be fun. Oh, and speaking of slow songs, I don't like sap, I like pretty. "Konstantine" and "How To Save a Life" are some good ones.

Oh, God, I sound so picky. *headdesk*

*snuggles up to friends list*

*takes cue from icon, rests head on your cleavage and gives you great big puppy dog eyes*

Great band for dancing: The Scabs. Localish Austin band you have to see (can only see) live, sortof hard to explain - they're not serious, their songs are hilarious, and most of them have other bands or real dayjobs. Cultish in the way that everyone screams out the lyrics but you can't help but dance. A must see if they're ever near.
These are all live.
Tarantula
Pay at the Pump
Pudding and Cheese Yes, the chorus is "I like pudding and I like cheese but I like coming... most of all"
Pushing on the Pull Bar cuts off a bit at the end, but still enjoyable

And if you're not scared of big hunky German mans that sing about things better left untranslated if you want to sleep at night, I guarantee Rammstein will make you want to jump on the furniture and set the house on fire. They're more dancy than you think, if you've never delved far into, and the newer stuff is more atmospheric.
Some of my favorites for dancing about:

Dancy:
Eskimos and Egypt Techno remix

For writing atmosphere:

(not legally Rammstein, but a couple of the guys coverd this very obscure song. it's in Russian about a ship stuck in the doldrums whose crew goes a little nuts) Schtiel (Calm)

Main Hertz Brennt (My heart burns)

I'm uplaoding a few zip files, but in the mean time, here are some songs I already uploaded recently:

Voices (composed by Yoko Kanno) - Macross Plus OST
-http://www.sendspace.com/file/z16dn4

vampverse mix - 18 songs I made into a mix for an Avatar: The Last Airbender vampire AU fic I'm working on. All the songs are vaguely supernatural/dark.

(I remember when I lost a lot of music and a lot of media with my extra hard drive being erased; I have much sympathy!)

I have no idea if you'll like anything I've got (Although I DO have techno Arabic music...) but I'll try to get something up tomorrow since it is currently 4am and I be tired. ;)

I uploaded the top 100 songs on my computer a couple of weeks back; I thought it might come in handy sometime. I'm not so sure how much our musical tastes coincide, though, since Sexyback makes me want to scoop out my eyeballs with a cocktail spoon. But if you're looking for dance music I'd recommend:

1st page:
Kosmos (t.a.T.U.)
Tantsy vam (Drugie pravila)
187 -- Tele-fan
Alizee -- Moi Lolita
Colonia -- Oduzimas Mi Dah

2nd page:
Elemental -- Gospoda Suzanis

3rd page:
O-Zone -- Despre tine
Ruki vverh -- Malenkie devochkie

And generally I would recommend:
Alternosfera -- Asta vara (Romanian goth rock!)
Selig (Page 1: kickass German altern music)
Bukvar -- Samo reci ne
Darkwood Dub -- Vrtlog Vira
Contagious (by Casey Stratton: slow and pretty)
Rufus Wainwright -- Hallelujah (also slow and pretty)
Theory of A Dead Man -- Last Song

I have a question to ask, actually-- how long have you had your Zen for? I'm looking at getting a video mp3 player and it's a tossup between the iPod video and the Zen Vision M, but I know that Creative has a bad track record with durability (because my year-and-a-half old MuVo is half-dead already). I'm wondering if the Zen is also plagued with similar lasts-for-a-year-and-then-COMMITS-HARA-KIRI syndrome.

I have a bunch of Jump, Little Children here, though not Cathedrals. And I have zips of OK Go, Vienna Teng, and a couple of other random things to upload, if you like.

And of course I've been gleefully downloading away, but in any case here's my most recent music post: The Dropkick Murphys. Unfortunately I deleted the files from my previous music post off my server -- it was me responding to the meme about the songs I currently couldn't stop listening to, and it was a nice selection.

I had a good-mood mix that I uploaded a while back, and then I started adding things to it. You can get the zip file here. There's a lot of classic rock, because SPN is a bad influence, and the rest is a pretty scattered mix (from movie soundtrack songs to ska to Brazilian fusion indie pop). Enjoy! :)
