Post-Heroes spec

-- Okay, so everything happened just as Isaac painted it except for the painting of Hiro and Ando showing up. Which makes me wonder, what if the paintings were out of order and Hiro and Ando are supposed to show up later rather than supposed to have shown up that night?

-- So we've got two timelines. In the first, Hiro doesn't show up in Odessa until the day with Charlie and she doesn't know him, and she dies. In the second, Hiro arrives in Odessa practically in Charlie's lap during her birthday party spends months in town to the point where the diner staff know him, and ... uh, she's still dead. Unless this is all being faked to throw off Sylar and Hiro and Charlie are in hiding together. What? If anybody could pull that off, it'd be Hiro.

-- Hiro and Charlie. *squeals* I swear, I haven't shipped a randomly-appearing-in-one-episode relationship on a TV show this hard since Tom and Alana on The 4400, although admittedly theirs was already gone further by the end of that first episode.

-- YAY, Zach! I want to keep him like a puppy. I totally would have had a crush on him if he'd been my best friend in high school, regardless of all the homosexuality. (God knows I've got precedent. *eye roll*) He's a gay Wiccan sidekick. How awesome is that?

-- Two Mohinders in one dream is now my new nightly aspiration. HUMMINA.

-- So Peter got a hit off Claire and off Sylar. Things should get really interesting when THAT pops up.

-- Thoughts on the preview for next week: A.) Is it just me, or did it look like Nathan deliberately drove into those highway barriers?, B.) Hiro made Charlie a roomful of origami cranes! EEEEEE!, C.) Eden got pulled over by Matt? Heeeeeee, and D.) Holy crap, Chandra called Mr. Bennet about Claire? Really? So Chandra only just figured out how to find these people but it sounded from the story Mr. Bennet told Isaac that he knew about these people way back when he first took in Claire. I really want to know exactly where they're getting this information about these people.

-- All right, kids, who's got a screencap of Chandra's list?

I think there's already a drinking game that gets into the bangs. The PTBs asked him to have that cut, which makes me feel glad for every female actor that had horrible outdated hair through 7 year series 'cause PTBs wanted it that way. Apparently they're reached a compromise in regards to the hair since MV hates it - i'm just giggling at the amount of effort this haircut demands!

It always confuses me when I run across the long feminist rants about how terribly misogynistic this show is, because... look at Peter. They took a whole stack of established female superhero tropes and put them on a guy. A straight guy. It's like Matt, who has the established 'girl' power of telepathy, and without the extenuating circumstances of, say, Charles Xavier. Or the way the powers of massive healing or extreme asskicking belong to female characters.

If you know anything about the standard formats of the genre, there's some beautiful gender subversion going on there, but is that good enough? Noooo.

Could you possibly point me in the direction of those rants? I'm curious to see how they'd support that argument.

It was weeks back when I was still lurking on multiple friends pages collecting links for a thing I gratefully handed to someone else, so I can't remember any of the LJ names. Someone in my own LJ mentioned having read them, too, though, so you could always ask if she knows. I remember one of the main points of at least one of them was how the first episodes insisted on setting up the main plotlines of the two women around sex and rape and both of them in the 'victim' mode, yada yada spam.

Mostly I skimmed these, rolling my eyes madly, so they've blurred a lot. Like how I can't remember exactly what about House is supposed to be so misogynist, but I know it has something to do with Cuddy's shoes.

But wait. What? Claire kicked her attacker's keyster. She spent maybe ten seconds onscreen being a victim, then she got even in a massive way.

But Niki/Jessica essentially set DL up to take the fall and Claire fought back and extracted revenge over the quarter back...and they're still victims? I just don't get that.

The ones I saw hit hard on the fact that they're a stripper and a cheerleader, two female roles focusing on their sexuality over their brains. That they then proceeded to show they both had strength and brains (okay, Claire and Jessica have strength and brains, Niki's still debatable) seems to have escaped their attention.

I'm not sure that I agree with this in regards to Peter's powers - at the beginning yes, but now I see him as someone who can essentially gain as many powers as he wants. And on E!Online Kristin hints at a darker turn for Peter (as did earlier interviews with Kring etc) by the end of the series so maybe there's hope he'll escape the rants from then on. I like Peter. I like the potential I've been reading about that he might go evil and I sincerely hope they're not foilers and they do happen. *shrugs* I also secretly like his hair :)

I've never thought in terms of the gender subversion (which is a great pov) in the show, but aside from Peter, the rest of the guys have nothing like Niki and Claire's powers either. Nathan and DL (and at a strecth, hiro) are the only ones that come to mind as having the more physical powers of the guys. Do these rants ever start in on the other guys? Like Matt and Isaac? I think Mohinder might be included in this group too. Especially with all the dreamwalking (I'm in the camp of he's got to have some power).

Made to be moussed!

Well, if a guy is gonna have those long bang thingies, he's supposed to put some product in them to slick it all back! They're not supposed to just hang there!
