I was bored out of my mind and bouncing around TWoP ...

... and I was reminded of this recipe for butterbeer that got linked over there a couple of Top Chef recaps ago. I don't have anybody to drink it with and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it enough to finish it by myself, but I really REALLY want to save the recipe. Hey, you never know, right? ;)

Besides, I figured some of you might appreciate it as well.

Butterbeer

Makes 2 quarts.

1 cup butterscotch schnapps
7 cups cream soda (almost one 2 liter bottle)

Carefully mix just before serving, adding the schnapps to the soda thenstirring gently to mix well, or the fizz will dissipate too soon.

Ooh, I have both of those! Cool! I'm gonna go make some Butterbeer!

HEE! Tell me how it tastes -- it sounds yummy. :)

I honestly don't know if I would be brave enough to try that, but now I'm tempted.

What I really want to make is the recipe for Pumpkin Pasties higher up on the page. Maybe I'll do that for myself for my birthday. :)

Ooh, it's good! A nice buttery edge to the cream sofa. Very sweet though. I couldn't drink more than one.

Cream sofa? *facepalms* I CAN type, honest.

That sounds really really good. I seriously always wondered how that would taste when I read the books, and this is, like... it seems so obvious that I'm mildly ashamed of not having thought of it before. *g*

OOOH, I have a photo ID now, I'm totally going to buy schnappes.

That's like 2% alcohol and doesn't even sound that tasty.

Yet, I would probably drink it anyway and giggle at my nerdiness the whole time.

I'm not sure which ingredient makes me shudder more the schnapps or the cream soda.

My god that has to be so sweet....

That would be hard to sit on! :D

I might be inclined to use, like, half cream soda and half fizzy water.

Or even diet cream soda, but that's because I rarely buy the real-sugar kind. Either way, mmm.

And here I am all knocked up and shit and can't drink the yummy drinks with alcohol!!! This is the one thing I really miss about being not pregnant. I can't have anything yummy to drink!!

That sounds kind of awesome. But you could easily try it — just re-portion the recipe for a can of soda rather than a 2-liter bottle (or for a cup, or whatever).

That sounds really neat, but is obviously not a canadian recipe. Our cream soda is generally bright pink, and somehow I just don't picture Butterbeer being pink.

[identity profile] gruyere.livejournal.com 2007-08-16 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, US cream soda is usually a very pale tan/brown (not unlike ginger ale).

I don't even like soda very much, and I still love that recipe. Just use cans of soda.
