apocalypsos: (so drunk)

It's worth a shot.

And with that, I mean everything, since I've decided this year to give every pilot I can a shot to avoid missing out on anything I might adore.

Verdict: I'll keep up with this one, at least for a while. It's very cute and kickass at the same time, and there are snarky geek (uh, nerd) jokes, which are two credits in its favor. Also, I think the character of Chuck is adorable and smart and has some very nice chemistry with Sarah (Sara? I'm going to have to look that up, just in case I have the vague urge to fic), Sarah is awesomely kickass, and Adam Baldwin is ... well, Adam Baldwin (YAY!).

On the other hand, I don't like the sister so much, Morgan is just annoying, and Captain Awesome makes me want to throw a brick at his head. I don't know, maybe I'm just hoping they'll eventually phase out anything vaguely resembling a social and private life that Chuck's got, because when he was dealing with them I was trying to skip ahead to the next scene with ninjas and Jayne.

Verdict: Most of the reaction I've seen was that it had potential but was confusing, but I loved it and wasn't confused at all. Then again, I've written time-traveling characters before. Jack, one of the leads in Dead Men In Dark Suits, is a time-traveler, and there's a lot of one version of Jack in the kitchen and one in the basement and one upstairs in the bedroom and so forth, so I'm really used to knowing this one is over here and that one is over there. So I was dying right about the time they got to the intervention thinking, "Jesus, stupid, next time you take a trip, try leaving something familiar in the past. Dumbass."

Oh, oh! And I knew the basic plot before I saw it but I didn't know the old girlfriend was still alive and time-hopping. That's AWESOME. I can only imagine that means that she knows why the hell he's doing it, and what really seems weird is that both he and she can do it. I'm really trying not to think about it, because it's a lot like Early Edition -- don't think about how it got there, idiot, think about what the guy in the center of it all is going to do about. I'm guessing we're going to find out eventually, though, but for now I'm content just watching him figure everything out.

And he ended up with his brother's girl. Ouch. (What's got to suck is that Olivia (Livia? Again, another thing to check) has to be out there somewhere now watching him with his wife and pining. Awww.)

I've still got to download Dirty Sexy Money, too. I was going to try Gossip Girl but it's so not my thing, and Private Practice would be tempting if it weren't for the fact that I loathed the backdoor pilot, I wince internally at her reasons for leaving Seattle Grace, and don't like any of the characters other than Addison and ex-Piz. Why couldn't Callie, Bailey and Addison run off and start a singing girl group instead? I would have totally watched that every week and bought a foxy wig and karaoke machine in order to sing along in the appropriate attire.

Er, you may have noticed I didn't say anything about watching Grey's Anatomy tonight. 'Cause I didn't. For some reason, new Office trumped new Grey's. Can't imagine why.

Oh, and while I'm at it:

Some quick points --

1. Denny and Shirley sitting next to each other while he sang "You Are My Sunshine" almost made me cry for the second time tonight. What? It was sweet.
2. I love how unapologetically slashy Alan and Denny are. They're my favorite old married couple on TV.
3. I know people were complaining about James Spader winning the Emmy this year, but I could watch him chew scenery, make blowhard closing speeches and dress in drag as a '60s girl-group singer every damn week and be perfectly content.
4. Aw, did I miss it or did they not break the fourth wall this week? I adore when they break the fourth wall! (Although I'm sure Clarence making a crack about Alan and Denny spending five minutes at the end of the day smoking cigars on the balcony counts. Heh.)
5. I was a little iffy on Katie (although I did agree with Jerry that she's very nice) but she won me over when her client freaked out and she wouldn't leave the room.
6. Clarence and Jerry -- I heart them so. :)

I like the sound of Chuck, I think. Plus. Adam Baldwin!

Journeyman was so much better than I expected. That whole love quadrangle thing was fascinating. And I loved the way he didn't let himself get distracted by the bombshell of the alive ex-fiancee and continued to drag in his heels to keep his wife. It's clear that the wife has some inferiority issues next to Miss Exotic Knockout 2007 and I hope he helps her put them to rest.

You could see, when the four of them were at dinner, that she was watching him and would rather have been with him than with his brother. It made me feel sorry for the brother, heh.

I really loved Chuck. It thought it was the funniest thing ever, and that Chuck himself was quite adorable.

What that show needs, however, is to bring back Not-An-Accountant-Bryce, because that opening action scene was both kick ass and hilarious at the same time.

It's Livia, thanks to the closed captioning. :)

Obviously, I'm watching Journeyman too.
