I guess I'm not allowed to move because the cat is sprawled on my arm.

And now for a longer post on Monday night TV ...

Oh, man, how is this show so awesome?! God, how is Captain Awesome so awesome? I mean, seriously, I could write an entire essay on why I love this character, and why he makes sense, and why you can tell that he's written by the same sort of geeks who make Big Trouble In Little China references, and why he's exactly the kind of nice guy you date who "Nice Guys" complain about being shafted for. You just know that there's a part of him that genuinely likes Chuck a lot, and that Chuck likes that a nice guy like him is dating his sister even though he is kind of intimidating to a guy like Chuck, and that he and Ellie should just totally adopt Morgan and get it over with.

CAPTAIN AWESOME, YO. \O/

Oh, wait, the actual story? Is love, as usual. I mean, Sarah is perfect for Chuck, even with all the lying, to the point where when she was standing there in a Princess Leia costume I was all, "KISS HER, CHUCK!" And I adored the interactions between Chuck and Casey, and especially the sandwich discussion, which may never stop being hilarious. 'Cause really, that's so the kind of conversation you really end up having with your friends.

I really don't get why so few people I know are watching this show. I love how the characters are flawed in exactly the right ways for the love rectangle or whatever that's going on, and how Dan and Livia have settled into this weird awkward flirty working relationship in the past, and yet it's tempered by the fact that he knocked up Katie and married her and they're both kind of straying and really not. And behind it all is this story of how the hell Dan's doing this, and why, and if there are others beside him and Livia (I mean, there has to be, right?). It's just ... it's this little gem that everybody gave up on early and it sucks to have so few people to talk about it with.

Okay, at random ...

-- Could that scene where Ando came into the room where the restorationist was reading Hiro's story have been more awkward?

Ando: "What are you doing?"
Restorationist: "Oh, I didn't hear you come in! This story is just so fascinating!"
Writers: "Isn't it, though?! Who cares what the critics think? Hiro in feudal Japan is an AWESOME storyline."
Ando: "... you guys realize my arms are not long enough to reach out of the scene and pat you on the back, right?"

(I can't remember who was calling him the Restorationist, but YES. I call him that now if only because that sounds like a Bond villain and that might actually make the whole storyline interesting.)

-- As for the actual storyline itself ... yeah, I'll be much happier if Hiro just hauls both Kensei and Yaeko forward in time and gets it over with. Although maybe it'd be better if he just hauled Yaeko forward in time and it turned out that Kensei didn't die and didn't age and he runs into Hiro in the current day, still pissy that the geek ganked his girlfriend.

-- I don't want to like West, and that trick was really kind of very, VERY mean. And yet at the same time, I may never stop laughing. Quietly, and while holding gigantic invisible buckets of shame, but STILL.

-- Are we done with Niki trying to get rid of Jessica? Does this mean we can finally get back to the we're-supposed-to-think-it's-Niki-except-it's-really-Jessica-pretending-to-be-subdued-and-calm-and-inwardly-rolling-her-eyes-about-the-whole-thing we know and love?

-- Is it bad that I want to take Monica and give her a big hug and go, "Oh, sweetie, don't hang out with these people. They're all nuts. Let's go over here and watch medical dramas until you can do heart surgery and carry on a secret love affair with a co-worker like an expert."

-- Look at Mohinder, with the growing a backbone and all. *pats him on his handsome little head*

-- Okay, look, Heroes, I still love you, but when you can't even get me, a genuine post-apocalypse junkie with a thing for superviruses and a well-worn copy of The Stand that it's high time to read again, to get all that excited about a world-ending virus storyline, that takes talent. You really have to TRY to suck.

*****

I'm watching Miracle on 34th Street and I just realized that I sound just like my mom when I talk to the TV screen. Heh. :)

EDIT: Oh, come ON.

Chuck breaks the silence by asking why Sarah was in his room anyway, and she says she wanted to surprise him as she gives him a (clearly Photoshopped) picture of the two of them at Comic-Con -- Sarah's dressed in some jungle-woman-type outfit and standing next to Chuck, who's looking very cute in a brown leather vest over a white long-sleeved shirt.

Are you kidding?! HAN AND LEIA.

Okay, I know it's a geek reference, but it's also a fairly obvious geek reference that even my mom would get.

I sort of love Journeyman exactly because, as you pointed out, they're all so flawed and human. I really dig the show. Sadly, though, I think Katie missed a prime opportunity to work the superhero angle with their son; tell him he has to keep the secret, just like Superman -- he'll understand that!

Sadly, Chuck is losing me. I've never been grabbed by the show, and it just feels like watered down versions of other shows I'd rather be watching...

I am however the other person who loves Journeyman. ;)

I'd be the other other person. =)

about Journeyman...

[identity profile] wrenlet.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, so in that last bit the no-longer-a-mad-bomber brother was TOTALLY LYING, right? And the scientist guy TOTALLY CALLED DAN IN THE PAST, right? And the former-bomber-brother is sekritly bummed that Dan TOTALLY MISSED THE CLUESTICK SHOE COMMENT, right?

They're also really working the relationship angles in ways that are not stupid, and that makes me happy.

Re: about Journeyman...

Seriously, the scientist guys KNOW something. And of course Dan, who's got enough problems with his family and the spontaneous time-traveling and everything, is just not getting it.

I just love that these people aren't jerks so much as they're just PEOPLE. They're not upsetting whomever they're dealing on purpose or to be cruel, they're just telling them difficult things or making mistakes.

I am LOVING Journeyman... and very nervous about it being canceled. NBC doesn't have too bad of a reputation of doing that, yes? I'm just glad it's not on FOX, we'd be screwed.

I've been watching Journeyman, though I missed half of last night's ep. I wish it came on in a different time slot, because 9pm is my relax time, dammit.

i'm still digging Heroes :p

HRG shooting his old friend and mentor in the head, priceless

bob giving monica and ipod full of everything she would need to be a bad ass, even more priceless

Hiro in the far past...well, i like the turn it's taking but i'm looking forward to him getting back to the present and hanging with ando again.

w00t!

Captain Awesome is totally awesome. I <3 him so damn much. And Morgan trying to get the job for Chuck was soooooo sweet.

Heroes was mostly boring, I thought. I'm bored by the Hiro in the past stuff, though I suppose the whole jilted lover angle could make things interesting.

I kind of liked the trick that Claire & West played on the bitchy cheerleader, mostly because I have issues with bullies like that and I liked seeing one get what they deserved. It was dumb, granted, because someone could have seen them. But I still liked it.

Mohinder working with Niki or Jessica will hopefully be interesting.

Sylar & the wonder twins are boring me.

I guess the virus is the big thing this year that they need to stop. It was funny cause my roommate and I were saying that the problem with this season so far was that there wasn't anything major to work towards. Hopefully that reveal will kick things into gear.

Hopefully next week we'll get more of the interesting storylines.

Oh, Monica. Yes, exactly. *G* Did you see the M3 fic where Monica gives Mohinder advice on his love life?

I like your version of Hiro's storyline best.

As for West's trick...it's like we're one person. YES. EXACTLY. Giant buckets of shame and quiet, quiet laughter.

[identity profile] siberian-skys.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
You guys are better people than I am. I couldn't even muster any shame. I think she had it coming.

[identity profile] budclare.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't even bother trying to muster any shame. After that thing with the cupcake...fuck her.

[identity profile] siberian-skys.livejournal.com 2007-10-30 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't argue with that.

I'm watching Journeyman still; I love how utterly human and flawed their relationships are, and my husband and I are predicting that something Dan does is going to undo his marriage...

...anyway, about Heroes and West's little trick? Yeah, it was funny, but I really can't get on board with him telling Claire she's better than the rest of them because she's "a babe" and has a power. Rrrgh.

I love Journeyman. *nods*
