Random things

-- I just slept nine hours on a workday. It's no wonder I'm not getting any goddamn writing done. *headdesk*

-- Response to Ed Koch's endorsement of Obama and problems with Palin. Wow, some people are ... um, special.

-- In May, after the California State Supreme Court ruled same-sex marriage legal, the courts mandated state officials to provide gender-neutral licenses and other marriage forms. "Bride" and "groom" became "Party A" and "Party B."

[Rachel] Bird and [Gideon] Codding have refused to complete the new forms, a stand that has already cost them.

... oh, grow the hell up, you fucking children. (Oh, sorry, I don't know where that came from. *innocent face*)

-- People keep sending Annie Proulx Brokeback Mountain AU fanfic with happy endings. Way to not get the point of the story, dumbasses.

-- I may be the only one who never really likes those, "If you see this, post a quote from [insert fandom here]," memes. Meh. *shrugs*

-- Dear readers, I have had a shocking and dramatic change of heart. John McCain and Sarah Palin have convinced me that overturning Roe v. Wade is a magnificent idea and we must pursue it at once. YES. THIS.

-- Only one week until new laptop! \o/

(Okay, two if I decide to splurge on a nicer one. Then again, maybe I'll get some cash for my birthday and that'll help.)

Re: BBM, are people retarded? I mean, SERIOUSLY? Poor Ms. Proulx.

Apparently they were asleep for, "If you can't fix it, Jack, you gotta stand it." Sheesh.

Ummm I had something smart to say, and then I saw your icon........

Ooo, have I pimped you yet on the joys of Christian and Olli?

EDIT: Just in case (since I'm about to run out the door for work), here's the playlist for them on YouTube.

Gay bits of a popular German soap opera. The edgy one that started on a romance between two half-siblings and got weirder and awesomer from there.

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's from a German soap opera called Verbotene Liebe and yup, it's airing right now. Olli is the adorable sensitive gay boy and Christian is the straight boxer with a girlfriend who both were Olli's roommates, and somewhere along the line they fell in luuuuuurv. There's new clips posted all the time by that woman -- it's like gay Christmas all the time. :)

No, you're not. Especially when people decide to start seventeen different fandoms at once.

Ugh. That marriage story, what idiots. And it's nice to see (or not nice) to see this is the second marriage for both of them. Sanctity of marriage, my ass.

[identity profile] theliel.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
yup. they need to get more airtime, the stupid it needs to be shown

[identity profile] tinylegacies.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
SRSLY

Good call on the 'sanctity of marriage' crap.

[identity profile] elusive-life-77.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
the marriage thing just fried my circuits. Maybe she should petition the state of cali for two forms. One to say her all important "bride" and "Groom" and another with the party A and party B. I mean, jeez woman let it freakin go. grrrrrrrrr.

The overturning roe v wade thing? I love it. I was nodding the whole time. If they are gonna take all our rights away then by all the gods men should have to have the same treatment.

No, she's not. I sometimes wonder at them, I poke them and then I think "huh". You see, my brain doesn't work like that - I don't have ready quote-sized chunks of literature or film dialogue to hand out to people like business cards.

[identity profile] witchofthedogs.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
My first thought, inevitably, is, "Why?"

And then I think, "Meh."

And then I move on.

Fannish credentials maybe?

The inevitable need of the human mind to prove that they can do what a parrot can do?

The mating habits of a society entirely based on the emotional reactions of made-up people played by other people?

I think "Meh" is probably the way to go^^

"If ever there was a time for the people of the United States to stand up and let their voices be heard – this is that time."

Hah hah hah.

"If there was ever a time for the people of the United States to stand up, it was not when voters were denied at the polls, it was not when people were detained without charge, it was not when those in power abused their power by bald-faced lying to the country--it was when they took away your gender specific, government-issue marriage licenses!"

WORDS ARE IMPORTANT.

Well, the words you like, anyway. The rest of the world can lump it.

[identity profile] squee1123.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
[i]... oh, grow the hell up, you fucking children.[/i] agreed. seriously. if you FEEL like a bride and groom, then you are. wasn't the argument a while back about civil commitment or whatever it was called that it didnt matter what it was called?

whatever. bunch of babies. party a and party b works just fine.

[identity profile] bexone.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
if you FEEL like a bride and groom, then you are.

actually, once the ceremony's done, you're husband and wife, so I'm pretty sure they can fuck off.

[identity profile] squee1123.livejournal.com 2008-09-18 05:08 am (UTC)(link)
that's a very good point.

Other way round, I think -- once you've got that marriage license, you're married in the eyes of the state, and from that point it doesn't matter if you have a big church wedding or exchange made-up vows standing barefoot on a beach with some guy with a certificate from an internet-based church officiating. (I don't know how the state of California deals with common-law marriages, that being how the state handles relations between a reasonably committed couple who may even refer to themselves as married but just haven't done the paperwork to make it legal.)

Oh wow, those links... a cesspool of human atrocity! Good stuff, all.

People make me want to be not-people. People like that really really out some pressure on my shaky faith in humanity. That's not very nice of them, but then I gather they aren't exactly the nice kind of people.

I don't know. Mostly I agree, but I kind of think a Tim Gunn Quote Meme would be amazing.
