Huh.

OCTOBER 23--Shortly before a John McCain campaign volunteer was reportedly robbed at knifepoint and had a "B" carved in her face after her assailant noticed that her car carried a McCain bumper sticker, the woman blogged last night that she was "Stubbornly searching for a bank of america to avoid ATM fees" and had somehow ended up "on the wrong side of pittsburgh."

You know, that sucks if it's true. But I say "if it's true" because as [livejournal.com profile] jrosestar pointed out, the B is carved backwards, as if someone were ... say, looking in a mirror when they did it to themselves.

Then again, maybe watching five million Law and Order episodes has turned me into a suspicious bastard.

EDIT: Meet Rick Reilly's fantasy football partner: Barack Obama.

I don't even like football, but that's goddamn awesome.

you know, that's really funny, because I live in Pittsburgh, and that's hardly a bad part of town, let alone "the wrong side".

[identity profile] kadath.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously. Every Pittsburgh local I know is like "Bloomfield's not the 'bad part' of town!"

[identity profile] foxxydancr.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
it's the Italian neighborhood, and really not that bad, though it does border some areas that are less than stellar. but even then, pittsburgh is hardly a hotbed of crime compared to other cities.

[identity profile] kadath.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh noes, Little Italy! Someone might assault me with a delicious cannoli!

...Please? :D?

[identity profile] foxxydancr.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose if you flung it hard enough, it could give you a slight bruise?

and yes, Little Italy. very, very little. (and also home to the best thai place in town!)

[identity profile] astaria51.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
WTF?

I mean, it'd be pretty hard to legitimately give yourself a black eye, but that's fucked up - who carves a letter BACKWARDS into someone's face? (Oh, I know, it was an illiterate angry black man out mugging Republicans. *rolls eyes*)

Also, that looks like scratching or a small sharp object. Not a KNIFE WITH WHICH YOU WOULD MUG SOMEONE.

I don't know, it looks suspicious from here too. If she really got mugged, I'm sympathetic. Maybe it's just the tactics of the GOP and their crazyface voters lately...

The fact that her twitter uses the word baller in a seemingly unironic way-- hurt me.

But yeah, that doesn't look like it was done with a knife. Plus its backwards -- plus -- yeah. I'm betting someone is getting in some trouble for filing a fact report soon.

[identity profile] callie-chan.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It's also kind of eerily clearly and carefully cut - I don't know her story, but unless she's claiming that her assailant knocked her out and then crouched over her for a good five to ten minutes carefully etching that into her skin while she was unconscious, I can't see anyone being able to carve something into flesh that neatly. At least not flesh that wasn't their own.

Seriously - if she was unconscious, then the assailant ran a huge risk for being caught while s/he took the time to make that B very neat and legible(while simultaneously missing that it was backwards?). If she was conscious - she didn't flail or flinch at all while being cut in such a way as to mess up that B?

She also refused medical help but said she'd get to a hospital on her own, the alleged attack took place in a busy area but no one saw it, and now the details of her story are changing. Now she's saying she was sexually assaulted, too.

I did notice -- and I could be wrong here because the photo was small -- that the cut seemed to be quite shallow. If that's the case, I think it casts even more doubt on her story because an attacker wouldn't be careful to cut lightly to avoid a possible scar, but would probably intend to make it a permanent mark.

Yes, I'm a suspicious bitch, too, and I didn't even know it was a McCain campaign worker until just now.

And the black eye -- she could have gotten a friend to do that.

It's just all very odd. Plus, I don't know but I more expect to be robbed by a white man these days. Even when I lived in apartments in a bad part of my college town it was the white guys in the area I was always nervous about.

Yeah, I feel bad that I have trouble believing that... but I have trouble believing that. IT'S FRICKIN' BACKWARDS!!!! Also, who uses the word "carve" of what looks like a cat scratch? Sorry, I mean a healed cat scratch.

I'm also glad to see that even some Republicans are crying wolf on the story.

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, right? The whole story just reeks.

And she said it was a knife — a butter knife, maybe!

She just admitted making it up.

I ADORE the fantasy football story.

Not everyone who plans to vote Republican for the presidential election is a crazy faced voter. Some of us just have different opinions of what is most important at the moment.

BTW - thanks to the friend of a friend, I just found this link which confirms it was faked.

[identity profile] callmesyd.livejournal.com 2008-10-24 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
The story is here.

The cops are worried about her mental health, so she may not just be a Political Whackjob but a genuinely sick girl. Poor kid. Hope she gets the help she needs.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw her face. Why would it be backwards if someone else did it?

Yeah... not so much.

People are stupid. Just sayin'.

Or possibly both.

I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to imply that - I realize re-reading that it does in fact come off like I think all Republicans are nut jobs, which I don't.

I meant mostly that there are some really crazy people showing up to rallies and such.

Thanks for the link, btw: especially generous of you considering how my wording came off. Sorry about that.

[identity profile] jrosestar.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
No offense taken. I just tend to sometimes point out that not every McCain support is a far-right-wing, moral majority, zealot - some of us are middle of the road lesbians.

I appreciate open communication on both sides. Most of my friends in LJ and RL are staunch Obama supporters.

And BTW - *whispers* I'm not really a Republican,I am just pro-McCain. And for the record, it has nothing to do with race.

[identity profile] astaria51.livejournal.com 2008-10-28 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Out of curiosity, what factors made/are making you support McCain? I won't debate, I'm just interested.

Rather than hi-jack Troll Princesses LJ, why don't you email me and we can carry on a discussion.

You can email me at J_Rosestar@yahoo.com

or we can continue in my LJ in this post where I started...there are more reasons now.
