OH NOES! A company's laying off employees during a down economy!
I may just be cranky as hell because I could barely sleep last night and now I feel like I'm about five seconds away from vomiting. But I have the same reaction to the LJ layoffs that I did to my landlord raising my rent. Seriously, I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner.
I'm double-checking to make sure all of my posts are on both my LJ and JF but honestly, outside of that I'm not worried yet. I'll save my Muppet arms for when I try to access the site and I can't. And even then I probably won't just because ... well, I've been online so long whenever people start flocking away from whatever site I regularly use I just sorta shrug, pick up my hobo luggage, and head out on my merry way.
In other words:

(Note: I personally do not, in point of fact, "got this.")

(then my second reaction was: of course they're laying off the software engineers, they're the most expensive. they'll hire half of them back as either temps or contractors a month from now and save on benefits.)

It's painful, but not the end of the world.
When 2012 rolls around, then we can all start flailing.

I don't see why SUP would have included all the new lj tech features if they were planning to killify the site. They're probably placing more emphasis on increasing revenue by boosting demand through shiny tech stuff while simultaneously cutting down costs by laying people off. It makes economic sense (though of course it sucks for the people who got fired).

There is really no reason to panic over a company laying off some employees in this economy. As I pointed out, the layoffs may help KEEP LJ afloat by cutting their overhead.

This is also a lot of the main clump of people who know it inside and out.
My personal two bellwethers are still here, but ... it will be a huge relief to me once Dreamwidth is up and running.

I am really getting sick of the "OMG NOOOOOOES LJ IS DUN FOUR" posts all over.
Just chill everyone, wait and see what happens before you lose your collective shit.

If my monitors at work weren't facing the rest of the office, I'd just have that tiled across all three. And whenever someone came to me and went "omg omg omg omg we need to do something RIGHT NOW" I'd just minimise everything and point angrily.
Also, really. They're a primarily Russian company, where software developers are cheap, and they're laying off people living in one of the most expensive cities? SHOCK HORROR.
