To be fair, though, we do like Specter better in this state than his own party does, at least as far as I've seen.
This comes on the heels of finding out this morning from the guy from the florist shop that Obama won our town in the election. I didn't know that already, and it's pretty impressive for such a conservative goddamn area. Heh.

I've seen politicians switch parties before (usually from a mainstream party to a fringe party or vice versa). It's not usually while they're in office.
I don't remember ever seeing a Republican change to a Democrat (or vice versa) while in office.
You could really screw with people though. Run in an ultra conservative area with a hardcore right wing Republican campaign; then get elected and go all liberal Democrat on their ass. It'd almost be worth the assassination attempts.
