I say now as a liberal Pennsylvanian ...

... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

To be fair, though, we do like Specter better in this state than his own party does, at least as far as I've seen.

This comes on the heels of finding out this morning from the guy from the florist shop that Obama won our town in the election. I didn't know that already, and it's pretty impressive for such a conservative goddamn area. Heh.

I have to say that my initial reaction to seeing the headlines about Spector was "um...Wait...What?" *BLINK**BLINK*

I've seen politicians switch parties before (usually from a mainstream party to a fringe party or vice versa). It's not usually while they're in office.

I don't remember ever seeing a Republican change to a Democrat (or vice versa) while in office.

You could really screw with people though. Run in an ultra conservative area with a hardcore right wing Republican campaign; then get elected and go all liberal Democrat on their ass. It'd almost be worth the assassination attempts.

I thought of you when I read the news :D

I've got a Democratic governor, a Democratic representative in the House, and two Democratic senators.

HEY-OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH. :D

This is just further proof the GOP is killing itself with its own new ideology. Yes idiots, keep driving out your moderates and die out in obsolescence.

Indeed. Apparently the meme from the Right is, "Goodbye Arlen, and don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out." Now they can concentrate on becoming more ideologically pure. Which I gather means pro-torturing people now.

At this rate, as John Cole at Balloon Juice said yesterday, the Repub party will be small enough to drown in a bathtub.
