I hate everything right now.

Every time I try to come up with something intelligent to say about the murder of abortion doctor George Tiller, who provided late-term abortions, I have a "Flames ... on the side of my face ..." type of reaction.

So I'll just say this.

If you seriously believe that women are so lazy and stupid as a group that a majority of late-term abortions are done not out of medical necessity but because women just routinely and casually decide they don't want to carry a healthy fetus anymore in the eighth month ... if you honestly believe that a woman should be forced to carry a dead fetus until her body decides to get rid of it, if it doesn't give her an infection and kill her off too ... if you can stand there and tell me with a straight expression that every birth defect and flaw can be caught before the fetus becomes theoretically viable outside of the womb and women just wait to get rid of those fetuses out of laziness ... if you actually think a woman should have to carry a fetus without a face or a fucking brain for weeks if not months knowing full well it'll die immediately after birth ...

Get off my friendslist.

No, seriously, get the fuck away from me.

And I hope you never have to learn why the right to a late-term abortion is so goddamn important.

He was a family friend, and he was truly, deeply committed to a woman's right to choose. He didn't do this to roll in the money, or for personal glory. He didn't stop when he was bombed, or when he was shot in both arms because he knew nobody else was willing to cowboy up and help women like he did.

And Operation Rescue can fucking 'denounce' the murder all they want. But they constantly denounced him as a 'murderer' and wished that 'God would take justice.' They picketed his clinic, yes, but also his home and church and his kids' schools. They told their sheeples that Dr. Tiller awarded vacations to his staff based on how many abortions they performed. So, they and their ilk may try to rest easy in the knowledge that they didn't pull the trigger, but they sure as hell set things in motion. Fuck. Them.

Oh, and thank you for this post.

I'm so sorry about your friend. I live in Kansas and knew who Dr Tiller was by name, of course, and didn't hear about his murder until reading it on apocalypsos' journal. It was one of those things I was always afraid would happen since there had been so many attempts before.

This is hideous and awful and I'm just sick about it. There were SO MANY organizations and people who targeted Dr Tiller with lies and hatred, and they are all responsible. Not that Roeder isn't -- this is a guy who apparently drove from KC down to Wichita just to murder Dr Tiller. (Roeder hasn't been convicted, of course.) And you know many in those organizations, mostly in Operation Rescue, are praising the alleged murderer as a hero.

You said it!

Ya know, I've sat with friends who had to have abortions, held thier hands, then held them afterwards as they bawled and howled like thier very souls were being ripped to shreds and bawled and howled with them 'cause my heart broke for them and thier loss.. The staff and doc of the clinic we were at always took the time to comfort and soothe and man were they never in it for the money. These weren't late term abortions and these friends weren't "lazy" and doing it because they were irresponsible. They were doing it because there was no alternative and the baby was dead, dying or missing vital pieces that would make it's life brief, painful and inhumane. I've always gotten in the faces of "Christians" who would condem these women and the medical professionals who help them, 'cause they just piss me off to the point I see red. Dr. Tiller had a positive impact on women who otherwise may have died and spared them the heart breaking trauma of watching thier children live in horrible pain and suffering for however long they would have outside the womb. I miscarried 4 children, the last one because a religious hospital did not complete a sterilization, only "clamped" my tubes with sutures meant to disolve over time. I had no idea and when I miscarried, I was so heartbroken and distrught I wanted to choke the doc that did it. So, the religious nuts that claim Dr. Tiller & others like him are murders should be inflicted with the same sort of pain these women and thier families go thru. But then, I'm kinda vindictive that way. And my Christian Aunt wonders what happened that most people today want nothing to do with Christianity. Go figure.
