RAWR.

A meme boosted from [livejournal.com profile] anonymous_sibyl: Top 5 Characters You Want To Punch In The Face

1. Lydia Bennet, Pride and Prejudice (she's my fallback)
2. Bella Swan, Twilight (that one's a gimme, really)
3. Everybody on Heroes (and yet I'm still planning to watch, for fuck's sake)
4. Izzie Stephens, Grey's Anatomy (about half because it's Izzie and half because it's Katherine Heigl)
5. Chuck Bass, Gossip Girl (I love him as a character, but as a person ... yeah)

Michael Steele insults a woman whose mother died of cancer at a speaking engagement last night. Between this and that representative who fucking laughed at a woman who hasn't been able to take her kid to the doctor for two years due to a lack of insurance, it looks like the new Republican leadership's defense against health care is, "Stop even pretending we're not heartless."

This rant takes the words right out of my mouth.

And then there's this:

Oh, and I finished another chapter of Heroine Addiction! WOOHOO. Now all I have to do is finish another one, and another one, and another one ...

I just can't even make any sense of of Steele. I mean, maybe he's just plain mean and likes fucking with people, but I'm sort of beginning to wonder if he's actually seriously mentally impaired and being explicitly coached into certain positions and not given anything like the tools to deal with anything other than exactly what he'd been told. Like, he was told if anyone stood up and started talking out of turn, to compare it to the heckling and turn away, and he doesn't have the capacity to hold in his head any sort of if/then with more than one layer. So, if someone stands up, then say this, but not, if someone stands up and shouts, versus if someone stands up and makes a reasonably cogent and non-shouty statement versus if someone stands up and says something heart-breaking.

And the thing is, 1. I wouldn't put it past some of the other right-wing nutjobs to totally do that, and 2. I observe there is in fact a recent example of someone coming across as profoundly less-than-bright and doing this same thing while being president, so... how are they choosing their leaders? Best ability to parrot unthinkingly? Least able to have independent thought which therefore leaves them easy to control? I mean, ew.

After that rant, I kind of need a cigarette.

I want to punch everyone on Heroes in the face (except Monica) so much that I had to stop watching. I think it was a good decision.
