It's Rex Manning Day!

BOYS! \o/

... ahem.

So, yeah, I need to think about something else, because all I've thought about the past few days is the health care bill and how every argument against it, no matter how reasonable it tries to be (because there are reasonable arguments against the bill, God knows), inevitably leads to a point where it comes off sounding heartless and makes me weep a bit in frustration for humanity, and then there's things that are DEFINITELY not terrorism like Sarah Palin listing those who voted for it and putting gun targets over their names and people threatening politicians who voted for it and leaving coffins on their yards and I'm just waiting for the point where someone gets shot and the tea partiers say, "See? If you wouldn't have passed this legislation, we wouldn't have shot him, so it's YOUR fault!", at which point I will start throwing up and not stop until July.

... ahem again.

And, okay, so yesterday I finished editing chapter one of the revised version of Heroine Addiction, and I was going to work on the next chapter last night, except then I got distracted by AI being a pile of suck, and I'm starting to get really really REALLY pissed at myself because I keep getting up early and coming home from work with plenty of time to write and yet I haven't gotten hardly anything written all month and I'm kinda disgusted with myself and the dribble of output I call a word count so far this year, and the only thing I'm remotely pleased with is that I've been successfully brainstorming new ideas the past few days, which would even nicer if I still didn't have to finish The Hollow Girl and This Way To The Egress and Cherry Bomb and Nearly Departed and Blood Red Carpet and Gilded and it really really REALLY pisses me off that I have that many novels started and not finished and there's a tantrum-throwing four-year-old in my head that wants to scream "I'LL NEVER GET PUBLISHED BECAUSE I'M A LAZY GIT!", take my ball, and go the fuck home.

... ahem again.

Um, ask me stuff? Or show me pretties? Or remind me that humanity's not a festering selfish greedy writhing cess pool?

I call terrorism. And no, humanity is not all shite. It's not in human nature to be nothing better than shite. Which means those WHO ARE have absolutely no excuse for it being just their nature, because my gods don't fuck up that bad!

Ahem.

Puppies. I recommend puppies.

I work on a hunger hotline in NYC and a true gentleman from South Carolina called because he wanted to grow vegetables in his garden to help feed his neighbors since they fell on some hard times. He was doing okay and he had some land and he wanted to know if it was okay to grow for others. I got to tell this gentleman that of course it was OKAY! he was planning on asking his neighbors that has some yards to do the same to help everyone out.

The Fallen Fruit movement in Los Angeles - picking up all the fruit that'd otherwise rot on the trees and donating it to local food banks - always cheers me up when I think about it.

And hey, yesterday was Ada Lovelace day. Have you seen the little comic about her? It's got pantaloons.

I keep remembering a couple of quotes from Pratchett's Good Omens when I hear about this stuff on the news:

It may help to understand human affairs to be clear that most of the great triumphs and tragedies of history are caused, not by people being fundamentally good or fundamentally bad, but by people being fundamentally people.

Just when you'd think they were more malignant than ever Hell could be, they could occasionally show more grace than Heaven ever dreamed of. Often the same individual was involved. It was this freewill thing, of course. It was a bugger.

Um...There's a new episode of Supernatural on tonight, if you're still fannish about that.

And here: have some flying robot penguins that some german tech company designed.

I hadn't heard about the coffins. Sigh. Oh yeah, SO not terrorism, amirite?

Remember, it's not terrorism when it's white people.

Someone, somewhere is freely choosing to show their jibbly bits online.

Hell, it makes -me- happy.
