Why, hullo there, Yuletide writer!
Dear Yuletide Santa,
I'm usually pretty lenient when it comes to my requests. I really would just love to see fic in any of the fandoms I chose, really, so anything you might like to write in any of them would be more than welcome. I'll just be happy if you have fun and get a chance to deliver a story you're proud of. Thank you so much for writing whatever you might come up with for me. :)
That said, some background into my requests:
2012
Okay, so I'm sort of a junkie for terrible disaster movies (as in, the movie is terrible, along with the disaster), so 2012 was pretty much my thesis. The thing is, I watched the whole movie and saw the ending and how everybody was all, "Hey, Africa may never have even sunk below the water level! Let's land there!" and I thought, "Oh, LOL, this is going to be hilarious."
Aaaaand then the credits rolled.
See, call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure a handful of arks filled with a notably large percentage of rich white people, and just rich people in general, showing up on the African continent and saying, "Hi, we're here to move in!" isn't really going to go over so well. Not to mention that from a classism perspective, you have a bunch of rich people used to being in charge of things and a bunch of Asian laborers on these boats. I'd love to see some nod to the fact that the rich people who paid for these boats don't have the same power that they had before now that the world is basically restarting, whereas the Asian laborers have a HUGE amount of power simply for having lived in such a way where they're used to hard work and struggle in a way that the rich people may not be.
... um, I hope that's not too serious for you.
We Need To Talk About Kevin
I did like this book, with a couple of exceptions. I really didn't like Eva, even when I sympathized with her and knew where she was coming from and what she saw in Kevin, but what really bothered me about the end of the book was that I felt like Franklin was never really forced to confront what sort of monster Kevin was. I mean, he DID in a very obvious and bloody fashion, but I wanted him to have to confront it the same way Eva did -- by having to live with it day in and day out, by having to see what destruction Kevin wrought. I kinda wanted a story where Franklin lives to understand that Kevin is broken, and also have to confront the fact that Kevin respects Eva for knowing what he is and detests Franklin for being so obstinately blind to it.
The Shawshank Redemption
I love the movie more than words can say and usually pick up an SR stocking stuffer each year if I can help it. However, I'm not keen on seeing another
"Red and Andy post-movie in Mexico" fic, no matter how lovely those stories may turn out.
What I'd really like to see is an AU of the movie's main conceit, which is Andy and Red meeting in Shawshank. What if they didn't meet in Shawshank -- as in, what if one or the other, or both of them, never were convicted of their crimes and sent to Shawshank? I would like to see them become friends even outside of the stifling walls of Shawshank, or even still inside the walls of the prison if one is still sent there anyway and the other is a free man.
Knowing
Again, awful disaster movie. So I have a bit of a soft spot for it, and after watching it I sort of wanted the terribly cheesy Blue Lagoon-esque sequel, with Caleb and Abby growing up in the shadow of the glowy tin foil tree with the mute Spike aliens cheering them on. (I sort of love how there is now way to explain the way the movie ends without using the phrase "mute Spike aliens." :D)

I still haven't watched last night's SPN. Or begun to download it yet, really. But I'm getting there! It's early, damn it, and I spent far too long playing with my new phone. *yawns*
