Oscars!

The only thing I'm grateful for right now is that I don't have to get up at 5:30 am for this like people in California do.

Also, I forgot how irritating the E! reporters are.

Best Supporting Actress

Amy Adams, The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit
Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom

Okay, I freaking CHEERED at Hailee Steinfeld's name. I fully expected the other four names in this category, but I was really, really thrilled for Hailee. I hoped she'd get Best Actress because she definitely is the lead in the movie, but I'm okay with this and I'm sure she's MORE than okay with it.

I don't think she's going to win, mind you -- I think it'll be either Melissa Leo or HBC -- but it's still an amazing accomplishment for a 14-year-old girl in her first movie.

Best Supporting Actor

Christian Bale, The Fighter
John Hawkes, Winter's Bone
Jeremy Renner, The Town
Mark Ruffalo, The Kids Are All Right
Geoffrey Rush, The King's Speech

Every time I see good things happening for Mark Ruffalo, I'm reminded about the brain tumor he survived way back when and think, "FUCK YOU, BRAIN TUMOR!," mostly because I like to think he's thinking the same thing. Heh. That said, I really like everybody in this category, and I still have to watch three of the nominated performances, but Christian Bale's such a lock for this I'm pretty sure he's already pressing his tux and clearing a spot on his mantelpiece.

Best Actress

Annette Benning, The Kids Are All Right
Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Michelle Willams, Blue Valentine

Ugh, they're going to make me watch a Nicole Kidman movie. *makes face* It's weird. I like her in real life and am always lukewarm-to-bored by her in movies. I realized the other day she's the only mom I think I've heard of who've given birth, adopted, AND had a surrogate carry one of her kids, which struck me as interesting and kinda cool. But I do like HER, in any event, and I understand she was very good in the role, so we'll see.

Uh, anyway. I'm really hoping Natalie Portman wins here, but I would be happy with Annette Benning as well, although I still have to watch the damn thing.

Best Actor

Javier Bardem, Biutiful
Jeff Bridges, True Grit
Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Colin Firth, The King's Speech
James Franco, 127 Hours

Colin Firth's going to win this category, and I say that without doubt. That said, I was pleased at Jeff Bridges' nomination, because you have to have some chops to take a role that John Wayne made famous and lock your hands around it for two hours. And I was pleased with Javier Bardem's nomination, because I haven't seen the film yet but I am always a fan of Javier Bardem in a tux. YUM.

Best Picture

Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
127 Hours
The Social Network
Toy Story 3
True Grit
Winter's Bone

I've got to say I was really impressed with Winter's Bone snapping up nominations left and right. I love a good underdog story, and while I don't think it's going to win anything I think this is one of those situations where the nomination is more than enough.

I listed the possible nominees based on nominations in other awards shows this season, and Blue Valentine was really the only one I had to delete off this list. It's a good solid list, I think -- the only two I haven't seen are The Kids Are All Right (which I think I'll watch tonight) and Winter's Bone (which I may save for a trip to the theater). I would highly recommend all of them, quite honestly.

I know I said the E! hosts were obnoxious but I think the one host was right -- if The Social Network has any competition, it's between The King's Speech and The Fighter, which snapped up twenty percent of the acting nominations between the both of them. I'm really impressed, as having seen a good percentage of the nominated performances, I can currently say that there isn't a single nomination right now that's making me go, "Ugh, why did HE get nominated?!" (I don't like Nicole Kidman's movies, but that's not to say I don't get why she was nominated. I have heard good things about Rabbit Hole, anyway.)

This year's crop is -- so far -- a satisfactory lot as far as I'm concerned. :)
