I was in the middle of prowling the Pit of Voles for stuff to rec on crack_van before the month is up and found this.

Heh. Yeah, I still remember when I first discovered FF.net and joyfully leapt in, hoping for good XMM fic. I'm still faintly traumatized by the experience.

If it makes you feel any better, HP, LotR, and Buffy *do* beat out XMM for Mary Sue saturation.

There are some non-horrible fics on FFnet, but most of it is tripe of the purest ray serene. This is a particularly fine example.
