Yay! I have a printer! Numfar, do the dance of new computer equipment! I also picked up the first season of The West Wing, The Last Boy Scout, and yes, Buckaroo Banzai. Can we keep the hysterics down to a minimum now? ;P

Oh, and in Suncoast, The Passion of the Christ stuff is everywhere. It's terrifying, especially those great animated versions just in case you wanted to see what it looks like when cartoonists draw someone being whipped with fish hooks.

So anyway, now I have to print out the TroNoWriMo bits (current word count: not much more than it was yesterday, days left: 26) and maybe some photos just for character basis stuff. But no fanfic, and I'm not bringing any books. The only thing I'm bringing with me that I can read is the TroNoWriMo, it's an eight-hour bus trip, and my DVD battery only lasts three hours. Grr ... argh ... I'm a writing monster ... *growls, tries to look frightening, fails miserably*

And you know what? I figured out today what pisses me off most about listening to Bill O'Reilly. Mostly, I'm just listening to it because it's the only place I can hear more than one conservative in one place. (Granted, not the best place, but still. EDITED TO ADD: I should probably say on a daily basis, because it's not like I hang out with a bunch of conservatives online and everybody I work with's far from that.) What kills me is that it probably wouldn't be half as hard for me to listen to, regardless of the differing opinions, if O'Reilly didn't spend 98% of the time kissing his own ass. And I don't even have Don & Mike to fall back on afterwards for the next two weeks, because they're on vacation. *grumbles*

Urgh. Can I get on the bus now? *wibbles* I think I need an icon that says, "Are we there yet?" I just need to figure out who I want on it.

... wow.

[identity profile] ilanalynn.livejournal.com 2004-09-03 07:51 pm (UTC)(link)
The thing that is amusing me is that on the military posts here (Germany that is), in all the places where dvds are sold on all three posts in the area, The Passion is not moving. At all. No one is buying it. I find this very amusing. However, people do seem to be renting it, as there was a sign at the counter of the rental place advising people that this movie was filmed in Aramaic, Latin, and Hebrew and you have to have the subtitles. bwahaha. That's the only reason I'd ever want to see that, is for the languages. Because I am a geek.

I wonder if Mel Gibson realized the average movie goer despises subtitles as if subtitles ate their dogs.

[identity profile] ilanalynn.livejournal.com 2004-09-03 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It's kind of funny, the only way I would have gone to see this movie in the theatre is if there had been no subtitles... just listening to the Aramaic, Latin and Hebrew and trying to figure it all out. I think that would have been awesome.

And yet Hero was number one at the box office last weekend.

.... Animated posters? You mean, cartoon versions of whipped Jesus?

And people complain anime is bad. Pheh!

Ron Weasley?

I just know someone who is a religion far removed from Jesus-worship is going to sue when his or her manager says 'I need you to push 'Snuff Film oF The Christ, sell sell sell'.

Things are very funny at 2 am.

And I had no idea you were a conservative, TP. That's okay, I still adore you.

Ah yes, the hysterics will stop on our end, but they will surely begin on yours after you have seen and absorbed the wonderfullness that is Buckaroo Banzai. And should you go and get the novel that the movie was based on, and get filled in on everything that will no doubt, confuse you during the movie, I'm sure we can expect BB fic in no time.

Oh, and BB icons.

You know, the usual TP stuff :>

Wait, woah, hold the phone.

Novel?

You mean there's something out there that might tell me what the hellck is going on in that movie?

I've never liked it. Because I've never been able to follow it.

Of course, where TV and movies are concerned I do have the attention span of a gnat. With ADD.

[identity profile] william-mize.livejournal.com 2004-09-04 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeahhhhhh. There's a novel that explains backstory in a BIG way. It's in print, it's by Earl Mac Rausch. The original mass market edition that came out when the movie first came out used to be rarer than hen's teeth. I paid $40 for mine about 8 years ago on eBay.
Here's an amazon link:

Bon appetit!

BB fic! Yes! I watched it again the other day just because I was all hyped.

. . . I totally need BB icons now.
