(no subject)

To couteract the list of things I didn't like (and because [livejournal.com profile] lots42 did one), I'm doing a list of the top fifteen things I loved about BtVS and AtS.

The top fifteen things I loved about BtVS and AtS were, in no particular order ...

1. The dialogue. Oh, God, the dialogue. *swoons* I'm such a dialogue tramp. Sure, normal people do not talk like that, but who really cares? Somewhere between Oz, Xander, and Spike, I was always being constantly entertained just by what they had to say.

2. The sense of continuity. Sure, there were some times they screwed it up, but when they were on the ball with the storylines, you could see stuff from three or four seasons past in present-day episodes.

3. They killed Joyce. Not that I hated Joyce, but they killed Buffy's mom. I wasn't even on happy terms with my mother at the time, and I couldn't stop crying during that episode.

4. The fact that their "gimmick" episodes were usually their best ones. Puppet!Angel, "Hush", the musical episode ... which, by the way, were probably my three favorite episodes.

5. Angel with a baby. I can't state enough how adorable and how honestly human Angel seemed when he had Baby Connor. For a few weeks there, he actually had my undivided attention without getting on my nerves at all.

6. Evil Spike. I always loved Spike, but Evil Spike was just a treat. Of course, the less "evil" he got, the more naked he got, so there's always an upside. :)

7. First season Angel/Buffy. Yes, unbelievably, at one point, I liked the pairing. Then again, back then, they hadn't gotten to the point where they were trying to see who could emotionally manipulate the other worse, but whatever. They were cute together that first season, and even into the second, right up to the sex.

8. Oz and Xander. Considering I was the Willow in high school, I would have had crushes on both of these guys (and neither one of them would have noticed me, or if they had, it would have been because they were dating my best friend at the time, but whatever).

9. When Cordy stopped being a bitch. Well, okay, she still got to be a bitch even towards the end, but she'd cleaned up her act quite nicely to the point where she was pretty much my favorite female character on either show.

10. Wesley getting a backbone. Somewhere between Stuffy Suit-Wearing Wes and Angst!Angst!Angst Wes, there was a point where I loved every little thing Wes did. He was troubled, but still very sweet in a dorky sort of way.

11. When Holtz stole Connor. Sure, when they came back out of that portal, it was kind of ruined, but when they jumped in, there was so much possibility. Where did they go? What the hell happened? Hmph. I like my version better, but they never would have done it in a million years.

12. All Buffy/Spike references before Buffy jumped off that tower. Once she came back, every hint of a relationship between them seemed almost like revenge for being ripped from heaven on her part, but up until then, it was approaching sweet.

13. Willow with Tara or Oz. Damn straight she was bisexual, and both of her significant others were perfect for her. (Kennedy? Kennedy who? Never watched that season, won't believe it. *hums happily to myself in the land of forced ignorance*)

14. Faith in any way, shape, or form. Even when she was crazy and bloodthirsty, she was way more fun than Buffy. :)

15. Season Three. God, I loved Season Three. I don't think there was an episode that year that I disliked at all. (Well, okay, maybe one or two, but humor me.)

I sort of liked Bitch!Cordy more than the kinder gentler version. But then YMMV.

same.

Plus, season three had the Mayor. Eeeee.

Dude, I adored the Mayor, even more than I liked Angelus. (Which says a lot because Angelus was the shit.)

I like your version better, too. But then I'm always a sucker for variations on the "you're your own father" time-travel theme.

It fit more with my understanding of Holtz too, he was that bitter I could deffinately see him doing that deliberately.

Huh? don't get the deliberate part.

I'm not sure if it was in TP's story but I could see Holtz leaving baby Connor to grow up to be Spike as a deliberate way of getting back at Angel. I always saw him as incredibly spitefull.

Yeah, but Holtz didn't even know about Spike. I mean, William wasn't even born by the time that Holtz dissappeared so...

[identity profile] apocalypsos.livejournal.com 2004-09-19 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
When I wrote the story, I thought of it as just an odd, albeit amusing, coincidence. Although I'm sure that had Holtz known about Spike, he would have done it on purpose.

Oh definitely, and I just love the idea.
(just look up my fic unforgiven up at ff.net written I'm guessing at about the same time you wrote yours :-))

I know, but I didn't think about that till after that thought had occured to me.

I got to this post on my friends list and immeaditely busted out laughing. Icon love. <3 (My brother thinks I'm very odd at the moment... n.n)

[identity profile] mystic-savage.livejournal.com 2004-09-19 10:28 am (UTC)(link)
Of course normal people talk like that. At least, normal people who've watched way too much Buffy and Angel. It's just that in real life, it doesn't go over as well. People get their feelings all hurt. Cops don't much like it either. Not much for snappy dialogue, those officers of the law.

*sigh*

Yes!! Thank you!! I've been trying to convince my mother of this for freaking SEASONS.

(Um. Sorry to bring in family discussion. Especially as it's odd enough that my mom watches Buffy with me, but odder that we have a feud over Willow's sexuality... But yes, my mother doesn't really believe in bisexuality, and I AM bisexual, so...there we go.)

But yeah -- even on the internet, Willow's largely considered gay, and I find that very odd given the number of bisexual Angel/Buffy fans. What about Oz? Oz was an awesome character and not at all worthy of forgetting. They had great chemistry, were cute, and I don't think anyone could claim Willow wasn't sexually attracted to him (see "Tender Sarah McLachlan love or wild monkey love?" discussion with Xander).

So...WTF? The militant gay-TV-power groups need her to not be bisexual because that would dilute it? The phenomenon's just weird to me.

[identity profile] mayatawi.livejournal.com 2004-09-20 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's more because she was so adamant about being gay/not liking men at all, frankly. I always thought she was bisexual too, but she didn't appear all that convinced herself.

*hides face, peeks out from between fingers* I call annoying/boring things 'the kind of fun that's not' now, as well as adding random suffixes to nouns in order to turn them into adjectives. I am a sad, sad little moppet.

[identity profile] lots42.livejournal.com 2004-09-19 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Kennedy was just Willow's 'fallback' because Willow always wanted to know what it was like to do a Slayer and if Kennedy got 'it' then there you go.

I need sleep.
