Okay, I really need to type this out while it's still fresh in my mind, because they dumped a ton of stuff in our laps tonight, and I really want to make sure I've got everything straight and I want to go all speculating and stuff. :)

All right, what we know so far ...

Mary Winchester died November 2. Jessica died November 2. Max's mother (who might have been killed on November 2, too ... they never said) died the exact same way as both women -- stuck over their bed, right before they burst into flames. Max's stepmother, whom he despised for not keeping him safe from abuse, is still alive.

What we might be able surmise from that -- Whatever this thing is, it's killing only the women they love. Max's mother and Sam's mother and girlfriend were killed, but not Max's stepmother, whom he hated. Max's father and uncle and Sam's father and brother lived.

Also, this thing isn't trying to harm them. I mean, obviously, yeah, it's killing women they love, but it's not harming them. Okay, so when this thing showed up at their cribs as babies, there's two options. Either they already had their mental abilities, however latent they might have been, or they were given their abilities that night. Maybe the deaths were intended as a sacrifice to give them those abilities. It certainly could pass as one, killing the mother of the child as a blood sacrifice to give them those abilities. The thing that throws me is that not only did they not actually use those abilities until six or seven months ago, but Sam lost Jessica while Max -- as far as we know -- lost no one. Now, Sam said he was already having visions of Jess dying before it happened, so that doesn't seem right if her death was a backup sacrifice or something, especially considering Max didn't lose anyone.

Meanwhile, there's the issue of when Max's mother died. She died when he was a baby, and if the killer's MO holds up from Sam, then she died on November 2. Max never said his age (did he, or did I miss that when I was giggling over Fathers Freely and Simmons?), but he did say he moved back home to save money for school, and given the time frame, it's possible it was November 2, 1983, the same as with Sam. Which makes me wonder, what if it was a sacrifice, but in preparation for them developing their abilities now? Maybe it was supposed to give them their mental powers, or maybe it was just supposed to strengthen them. Twenty-two years later, you end up with (let's assume) a small army of young men (and women, hopefully -- I'd love to see a kickass chick or two on here) with the mental strength and physical fortitude to fight something. And Max and Sam cannot be the only ones. I'm guessing if whatever this thing is was going to go to these lengths to create or enable kids like this, they'd be prepared for an eventuality like Max's crappy family by counting on some expendables.

What makes me wonder what did this is that November 2 is All Souls' Day, and (forgive me, I'm working off Wikipedia here, because the lapsed Catholicism is REALLY lapsed) the whole thing's related to souls in purgatory and honoring those who've passed on and stuff. And my mind's going off in different directions right now, so I'm not going too in-depth here, but what if that's got something to do with it? Somebody else feel free to go off on a tangent on that one, because I'm rolling elsewhere.

Like, say, why Jessica had to die. Nobody died to make Max's powers come to fruition, so why did Jess need to die? Maybe because John's quest has turned Sam into a more powerful weapon? After all, Max is broken. His family fucked him up. Yes, he knows how to use his telekinesis, but he's totally screwed up. Meanwhile, not only is Sam stable, intelligent, and fearless, he's also got the training and expertise to be a fine warrior. Hell, he even said it himself. Not only that, but he brings Dean (also trained) and John. (I'm suddenly having another theory about why the hell Jess had to die, but I'm saving it because OMG PLOTBUNNY.) Sam is ten different kinds of valuable, especially if all of this is in some attempt to create an army of psychic warriors. And yeah, I'm probably overreaching with the whole psychic-warrior theory, but I like it and I'm holding onto it and I'm cuddling it close and naming it George. So there.

Then there's the really scary theory -- what if Mary and Jess and Max's mother were all killed by Sam and Max?

I'm not saying on purpose, of course. They were infants when their mothers died, and I'm not sure how to wrap that around Sam walking in on Jess. But the possiblity does spook me a little, if only because give me a little while and I could whip a conspiracy theory like that. I'm an idiot savant at conspiracy theory. And somebody coming into their room and maybe showing them as infants how to do it ... GYAH. (But like I said, I'd have to work it out and I'm still all OMG WHY DIDN'T I TAPE THAT BEST EPISODE EVER!!1!)

I'm just ... GOD I LOVED THIS EPISODE SO MUCH I WANT TO MARRY IT AND BEAR ITS GUN-TOTING COLLAR-WEARING TELEKINETIC INFANTS.

Ahem. I'll be fine. Just as soon as somebody writes me Wincest with Dean in the priest collar and leather jacket while heavily armed and Sam trying to make his telekinesis work. I will try to scrounge up some porn in my head in return for that if it KILLS me.

Now, if you'll all excuse me, me and my Dean fetish have to go make an icon. ;)

My brain IS BROKEN NOW from this comment. I DO NOT WANT IT BACK! <3 <3 <3 And oh, more like Sam, oh eheheheh, that totally works into a plotbunny I had today. Awesome.

Those are excellent theories - especially that there are more like them. Something is preparing them, for something... *cue ominous music* But that would be awesome, an Army of Light or something like that...

And yes, icons will be made.

*goes off to search for dirtywronghot Wincest*

I very much admire your thoughtfullness! 3 hours later and I'm still O.O!!!!!! from how MINDBLOWING this episode was. SO DAMN GOOD. Augh. *dead*

But some very interesting theories!! Psychic-warrior army. Oh my. That would be an interesting device for bringing more people into the show (an issue that is always in the back of my mind - as people are introduced in eps, I wonder, is this person going to stick? Is this a new regular? Because while I would hate for the brotherly dynamic to get screwed up, I feel like the show can't last several seasons in this fashion, you know?) and you're right, I hope they have some strong female characters soon. Maybe bring in a Faith? *whistles* Instead of the stupid damsels in distress they often have.

Uhhhh. Yeah. My brain is fried from this episode.

I have a tivo-dvd player combo, for christmas! Do you want me to dvdr you a copy? I'm just thinking about how I'd feel if I didn't have a dvd of this episode, and it feels pretty damn shitty...
