Oscarwatch: "Julie and Julia"

It was pretty much exactly what I expected -- it's a good thing I watched it at home, as I spent the entire movie skipping past the stupid Julie parts to get to the much more fun and interesting Julia parts. Seriously, Meryl Streep is a fucking wizard. How does she DO that? "Poof, I'm Julia Child!"

Aaaaand now it's back to what I haven't been able to start doing until now, which is that I need to edit five chapters and write as many words as possible by the end of the day, since I believe I've only written something like 2500 words this month. Ugh.

What was that nominated for? Best actress?

The nominations aren't out until Tuesday, but it's Meryl Streep ... I highly doubt it won't get nominated. (Same reason I watched The Blind Side already. :))

I was just asking in case I needed to be appalled that it got a nomination for Best Picture. ^_^

You never know. They are giving us ten Best Picture nominees this year, after all. *makes face*

Good God. I really really like Amy Adams, but her + Julie was close to unwatchable. The critics called her "whiny". I don't recall them mentioning the words "self-involved", "thoughtless", "ungrateful", "bitch-faced"... When she had her triumphant moment at the end, I could not have given less of a shit.

I liked the Julie parts, largely because there were a few very nice comments on blogging. But yeah - half of a great movie and half of just an okay movie.

Yeaaah. I own the DVD? But I haven't quite been able to watch it since seeing it in the theater due to the unfortunate Julie parts. And I like Amy Adams! The fact that I don't completely dislike Julie is totally due to her. But I still mostly dislike Julie. Meryl is completely and utterly awesome as Julia, though.

I know, right? I love Amy Adams, but Julie's such a pill, and they keep interrupting this awesome movie about Julia Child, where she's having this quite lovely relationship with her husband and she's played by Meryl Streep and they probably could have included all of the spy stuff, with this lame movie about a woman I don't like played by an actress I adore and occasionally pitied for not working on something else instead.
