WOOHOO JENNIFER HUDSON WON!
And see, I thought that was all I needed in life, and then Ugly Betty and America Ferrera won and just OMGYES! *flails* I cannot express how giddy I was about both wins. The Ugly Betty cast was just so very excited and I was just as excited for them, and they all looked fabulous and wonderful and now I totally want to go have a marathon of the show again. (Note to self: Get my dad to watch that show YESTERDAY.)
America Ferrera's acceptance speech was so adorable, just the kind of acceptance speech that's awesome to see every year, but that interviewer whose name escapes me at the moment (and don't bother telling me because honestly, I don't care) who cornered her as she walked offstage needs firing. A lot. What the hell kind of questions were those? Did she make a list of the most offensive ones and run down them?
And speaking of Ugly Betty, Salma Hayek walked on stage and I lost all of my heterosexuality. I suppose I'll find it under my computer desk later, but until then, HUMMINA.
Forest Whitaker looked delightfully stunned and I'm really happy for him. He's always a delight to see in a film because you can always count on him to do a hell of a job. It also led me to go check him out in Wikipedia -- I've just always been curious about his eye problem but never bothered to look it up -- and seriously, how cool is it that first he had a football scholarship, but then he lost it because of an injury and went to college for singing? And can sing opera? REALLY?! Dude, that's really cool.
As I said in
cleolinda's comment threads, dear Eddie Murphy: This is your warning. No more dumb Disney comedies or fat suits. WE'VE GOT YOUR NUMBER, FUCKER. WE KNOW YOU CAN ACT.
I <3 Martin Scorcese. That requires no elaboration, except to say that I hope beyond hope that (deserved or not) he wins the directing Oscar this year. I want to see that standing ovation THIS MUCH. I know there are movies he deserves it more for, but if the Academy has to learn their lesson with a lesser movie, so be it. I doubt Clint Eastwood and Innaratu whose name I'm no doubt butchering and the guy who directed The Queen and whoever else may be nominated this year are really going to argue that they did a better job than Martin freakin' Scorcese. (He's one of the famous people I'd love to invite to a dinner party. He'd have amazing things to say about film and movie history and he'd be witty and intelligent and fabulous.
Okay, so maybe it required a LITTLE elaboration. Heh.
Oh, and I'm going to have to see Borat, aren't I? I've never been all that enthused about lowbrow comedy, but that was genuinely funny.
I'm starting to think Hugh Laurie wins awards simply so people can listen to his acceptance speeches. They're phenomenal. :) I adore that he always manages to thank Stephen Fry, too.
And I'm with
cleolinda -- I don't get the Dane Cook hype at ALL. Not that I don't think he's funny, but he's not the be-all, end-all of comedians. Hell, I laughed more at Sasha Baron Cohen's speech than I've ever laughed at a Dane Cook performance. And the cute thing? Meh. I'd rather just stare at a photo of Jensen, thanks.

While I'm at it, I'm going to take this opportunity to pimp Ugly Betty.
If you haven't given it a shot, head over to ABC.com and check it out -- they're streaming every episode since the beginning. It's hysterical, it's smart, and it's delightfully soapy fun. It's catty in all the best ways, and it's hopelessly addictive. And plus, WINNER.
Dooooo eeeeeet.

Date: 2007-01-16 04:43 am (UTC)He won for "Last King of Scotland" didn't he? I am not surprised. I saw the trailer and he scared the crap out of me. Okay, background: Idi Amin was one of my childhood boogiemen (the other was Anita Bryant). I had a total flashback to seeing that man on the tv screen...
Salma Hayek or Angelina Jolie can have that effect on lots of straight girls.

Date: 2007-01-16 04:46 am (UTC)I've been on and off with Angelina, but Salma always has that effect on me. It's the chest. That woman has fabulous breasts and knows how to make them look gooooood.

Date: 2007-01-16 05:04 am (UTC)Sooooooo psyched for Helen Mirren, though. And speaking of people who are made of awesome, a big awwwww for America Ferrera. She was so cute reacting to the interviewer who kept talking, too. Like "screw it, I'm out of here" Heh.
I don't get Dane Cook, either. He's is not cool enough (or cute enough) to get away with not wearing a tie. It's a formal even, Dane. Ties. Look into them.

Date: 2007-01-16 08:26 am (UTC)And America Ferrera's speech was just so adorable. She said she was just so happy about all those little girls who come up to her on the street and say they're happy that she's playing this role, and she just couldn't stop crying, and you just wanted to SMISH her.
(Let's just ignore the fact that the idiotic interviewer for NBC who caught her as she was going offstage asked her what she had to say to the people who never thought she should play Betty and, when she was like, "Bwuh?" proceeded to ask her if she ever really thought she had a chance at all. Way to be nice and rude to a sweet girl on national TV, asshat.)
Man, I totally need to settle in for an Ugly Betty marathon today. Mmm-hmm.
