apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
So I've put off posting a real fic rec post for so long, it's kind of piled up a LOT. And I haven't even gotten to read all of the [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon entries that have been posted yet, so there should be more of them coming.

Twenty-four fic recs ... Supernatural, CW RPS, Firefly, Veronica Mars, X-Men movieverse )

Fic recs left: 415 fic recs

And now, the plotbunnies are calling to me. *sigh*
apocalypsos: (boo misbehave)
So last night I went to see my cousin's band perform in a very tiny bar before he goes off for his summer job playing in another band on a cruise. And that cruise thing, by the way, never stops being unfair. (He gets to spend the entire summer on a cruise ship? BAH.)

Anyway, the band was really good, although my cousin now not only looks like Maynard G. Krebs, but has taken to smoking hand-rolled cigarettes. In any event, while they were playing some guy asked if I could play pool because he needed a teammate, and I managed not to say, "If I weren't rusty, I could probably kick the ass of half the people in this place." Then I made him look really bad by shooting way better than he was doing, and THEN I got paired up with this really cute guy who may have been a hustler because he started off an okay shot and turned into a shark after the second game, which he won for us by popping the cue ball over another ball to sink the eight. Yeah, 'cause that's not intimidating to me at ALL. (My parents had a pool table pretty much the whole time I was growing up. I'm decent when it comes to basketball, but I'm awesome at pool when I've got practice in. *sigh* I need a pool table.)

Also, one of the guys in the bar was the spitting image of Billy Boyd, which was too cool.

Aaaand then I drove home and passed out, and then I woke up and [livejournal.com profile] sanyin wrote The Far Horizon as a remix/mashup of On a Steel Horse and We All Make Wrong Turns for [livejournal.com profile] revisit_me and it is amazing. I believe there may be firstborn children and ponies owed. Mmm-hmm. *cuddles story*

Fic recs left: 439 fic recs

Hmm. I think I need a new Dean-with-a-book icon.

EDIT: I didn't get an apocalypse yesterday. NOT FAIR. Who do I have to kill around here for the world to end?!

Oh, that's right. Everyone.
apocalypsos: (dianamarco)
I wanted to work on getting [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon "Dude, where's your story?" emails sent out, and instead I wrote two thousand words of Supernatural fic. I fail at life.

Why you should watch The 4400 when the new season starts next week. Because, "It's the shit, y'all" and "Look! A fandom with new episodes this summer!" only goes so far. They were having a marathon of season two episodes today, and they showed the Tom/Alana lovefest, and I died a death of squee. [livejournal.com profile] iphignia939 is right. Best eight imaginary years EVER. See, you can tell because when they first got there, the bedroom was all plain and man-designed, and then they messed up the sheets and eight years later it looked like an art exhibit. Wheee for Alana redecorating! *giggles*

Oh, I almost forgot. When we were at Hershey yesterday:

Bryan: "Hey, listen to this." *shows me that one of his ringtones is "Bye Bye Bye"*
Me: "Dude, you're going to have to get laid once for every time that plays just to compensate."
Bryan: *plays "Bye Bye Bye" on his cell phone over and over again for five straight minutes*

That may have been me channeling Dean for a minute. Did I mention we wasted a half hour at the arcade there kicking ass at one of the shooting games? He gets more kills, but my accuracy is a hell of a lot better. Heh.

And a quickie fic rec, because dude. DUDE.

Color Me In, by [livejournal.com profile] ink_stain (Supernatural/Grey's Anatomy, John/Izzie) -- The world needs more GA/SPN crossovers, especially if they turn out like this. *pets the story*

So this is where I clear out my bookmarks because tomorrow is [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon stories and I want to make room. :)

Eight fic recs ... Supernatural, WB RPS )

Fic recs left: 441 fic recs
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
I think we're about to get the thunderstorm they've been threatening we'll get. Hmm. I should probably go check my windows. Anyway ...

Ten fic recs ... WB RPS, Supernatural, House, My Best Friend is a Vampire )

Fic recs left: 449 fic recs
apocalypsos: (headdesk)
The World Trade Center trailer -- Okay, I'm not the biggest fan of either Oliver Stone or Nicolas Cage (except for naming his kid after Superman, which is equal parts terrifying and awesome), but Maggie Gyllenhaal and Maria Bello and it looks respectable enough. And the shots of the tower collapsing from inside? Jesus.

And now for fic recs ...

Nine fic recs ... Top Chef RPS, WB RPS, Supernatural, The Breakfast Club, The Office US )

Fic recs left: 459 fic recs

Tomorrow night, I go back to working on the House of Wax recap, working on [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon (and my own assignment ... see icon), and trying to get rid of my mid-workshift writer's block. ARGH.

Also, YAY FOR NEW ICON. (That and many other beyond awesome Office icons here.)
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
I feel like I have to tell myself out loud after rewatching last night's GA that spoiler ) is not a shoutout, no matter how much I'd like it to be.

In any event, more fic recs ...

Ten fic recs ... Supernatural, WB RPS, Grey's Anatomy, Harry Potter -- spoilery references to the season finale of SPN )

Fic recs left: 478 fic recs

This doesn't relate to anything other than being a huge nerd, but last night at work I used the word "jossed" in a real conversation and didn't even realized it until somebody asked me what the hell I just said. Uh, oops?

EDIT: Does anybody know of a really good book about what life was like during the Black Plague that won't bore the hell out of me? That period of history's not really my thing -- I'm more into the last few hundred years and American history --but I'm thinking of picking up a book on it just for the hell of it. And absolutely NOT for research. *shifty eyes*
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
I really have to finish the story I'm working on right now or I won't be able to sleep. Stupid fandom. *smacks SPN upside the head* Stop interrupting my weekend, damn it!

So, yeah. Supposed to be writing, here to rec. What are you going to do? *shrugs*

Ten fic recs, including zombieficathon recs ... Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural RPS, Veronica Mars, Angel )

Fic recs left: 488 fic recs

Five fic recs ... Supernatural, Stargate Atlantis, Veronica Mars )

Fic recs left: 498 fic recs

I keep slacking off by reading fic. Which you know, is why I'm making a ginormous dent in my fic recs count in the last few days. Heh. :)

Eight fic recs ... Supernatural RPS, Supernatural, Stargate SGA, WB RPS, Lotrips )

Fic recs left: 503 fic recs

[livejournal.com profile] dialzforzombies is apparently putting out fics this week along with [livejournal.com profile] zombieficathon. So there'll probably be a lot of zombie fics getting recced ... you know, just as soon as I finish my damn story. *grumbles*

And now off into the fray with me.

P.S. I've been listening to "Drive" by Melissa Ferrick thanks to [livejournal.com profile] violetsmiles's evil influence and now all I want to do is write porn. No, brain! Shambling undead now! Porn later!
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
What the hell is is with you people? Just pound out or rec a bunch of awesome fic in the last few days, why don't you? ;)

Nine fic recs .. WB RPS, Supernatural, Veronica Mars, BSG, Boondocks )

Fic recs lefts: 511 fic recs

I need to step away from the computer and relax, for crying out loud. I think it's morbidly amusing that the zombie story might actually be eating my brain.

I have a steak and a bottle of barbecue sauce. Why the hell I'm not cooking the damn thing is beyond me. MMMMM, meat. *stomach growls*
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
Seven fic recs ... Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Chronicles of Narnia )

Heh. A lot of this is just sex, sex, sex, is what I'm saying. ;)

Thirteen fic recs ... Supernatural, WB RPS, Stargate Atlantis, Veronica Mars, Survivor, Rent )

Fic recs left: 561 fic recs

I've been listening to "How To Save A Life" by The Fray pretty much on a continuous loop all damn day, which really doesn't help because if I'm remembering correctly, it's the song that played towards the end of that Grey's Anatomy episode with Izzie and Denny and the ANGSTANDWOE. I'm torn between it making me feel giddy or depressed, but the fact that I haven't had fresh GA in weeks now? Leaning towards depressed, unsurprisingly.

I may be trying to rec Supernatural or (at the very least) Sam/Dean stories for [livejournal.com profile] rec50 for whenever the next round is, in addition to doing the fic rec challenge over here. I'm going to get a tattoo that says, "Glutton for Punishment", I swear.

Also, I may go to the movies later, just to get out of the house. Still haven't found my ID. *headdesk*
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
Nineteen fic recs ... Supernatural, Supernatural RPS, Mythbusters, Jossverse RPS, Doctor Who )

Fic recs left: 574 fic recs

I am officially tired of blowing my damn nose. Owie. *whimpers*

EDIT: I was just thinking about the Supernatural finale and realized that the day after, I may be the first person in existence to die from either fanfic overdose or plotbunny attack. They'll find me lying on the floor of my office with pages of Wincest crammed into my veins and twenty tiny bunnies with sharp little teeth eating my head, just you wait and see.

OTHER EDIT: Sometime in the next week, I have to listen to "Animals" on continuous loop and write curse 'verse porn. OMG YES. (No, I haven't been listening to that song, why do you ask?)
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
I've spent the entire day working on the Books of Boggs, so yay for that. But now my [livejournal.com profile] psych_30 Little Damn Table for Sam/Dean is calling to me. However, since I could use a break, I'm going to sit back and go through Pairing List entries. Maybe I can start typing it up and have it ready early.

But first, fic recs ...

The Scientific Method, by [livejournal.com profile] cupidsbow (Stargate Atlantis, John/Rodney) -- Woohoo! Group orgy! Okay, not really. But kinda. John sets off an Ancient device that has an interesting effect. Just read it -- it's hilarious.

A Little Fetish ..., by [livejournal.com profile] consternatio (Supernatural, Sam/Dean) -- Post-"Asylum" gun porn. Like, a LOT of gun porn. GUH.

Today's The Day We Have Everything, by [livejournal.com profile] pene (Bring It On/Bend It Like Beckham, Missy/Jess) -- Oh, come on. Look at that pairing. Not only is it well-written, it's lovely and hot and sweet, too.

I spent four hours this morning writing fanfiction after getting up at eight, and today is my first day back at work. If I had any sort of brains, I'd go and take a nap for an hour before I leave, but nooooooo. *whimpers*

Americans see, hear more profanity -- poll. Maybe I'm a little too amused by that poll, but damn it, "fuck" is my favorite word on the planet.

Five recs ... Supernatural, Veronica Mars, Charmed )

Fic recs left: 611 fic recs

I really have to go through the Remix stories to make recs soon. Mmm-hmm. *nods*
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
Current word count for this particular Supernatural fic: 4,000 words. Low estimate of what I'll probably hit before it's all said and done: 10,000 words.

So, longest SPN fic yet, then. Hmm.

Of course, now my brain is fried and I need sleep and to work on something else to relax. Heh. That's kind of sad, that my idea of taking a break from writing one story is to write another one. :) (Although I may work on the Books of Boggs this weekend hopefully, because this week at work, as annoying as it has been, turned out a wee bit inspirational in terms of subplot ideas.)

Okay, so that there's real content to this post, fic recs ...

Six recs ... Supernatural, SPN RPS, Grey's Anatomy, Charmed, Veronica Mars, Farscape )

Fic recs left: 616 recs left

EDIT: I changed the setup of my colors so now the whole LJ's pretty much shades of purple, which is my favorite color. Is there such a thing as too much of a good thing? Let's find out! *starts timing how long it'll take me to change the colors again* ;)
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
And because my computer won't be happy until every last bit of it breaks down, now it won't bookmark stuff. Oh, yeah, that won't make my fic rec challenge harder AT ALL. *growls, sacrifices self to the gods for new computer*

Cut for length )

Fic recs left: 622 fic recs

That last rec made me pause and think a little about the stuff I read, because I know a few people whose response to it (and some other recent fics) was to point out that they just couldn't read something that was going to hurt or make them cry.

Look! More length to cut! It's like a half-assed circumcision! )

And time for a couple more fic recs ...

I haven't done a fic rec post in a week. Huh.

Inspiration in the Strangest Places, by [livejournal.com profile] iphignia939 (Project Runway RPS, Daniel/Andrae) -- Because, really, there needs to be MORE and there's only the two of us here.

Planning Ahead Is A Sign Of Weakness, by [livejournal.com profile] toomuchplor (WB RPS, Jensen/Michael/Tom) -- It had me at the "Things That Shouldn't Taste Like Beef" game. *giggles*

Together We Could Rule This World and Is This The Nadir?, by [livejournal.com profile] ethrosdemon (RPS, George Clooney/Anderson Cooper) -- I honestly don't know when I started reading so much RPS, but seriously, Anderson Cooper and George Clooney. Hell, I'd sit there and watch the two of them talk for the entire afternoon, so these? Golden.

A Life Less Ordinary, by [livejournal.com profile] marinarusalka (Supernatural, John, Dean and Sam) -- Because any John fic done right is fabulous, and this is fabulous plus one.

A Million Light Years From Home, by [livejournal.com profile] musesfool (Firefly/Harry Potter, Sirius and the crew of Serenity, post-BDM) -- I've seen this recced a lot already, but if you haven't read it yet, you really have to. It shouldn't work and yet it's perfect.

I updated IMDb with the goof from The Office about there not being a Hooters in the Scranton area. Well, that killed five minutes.

Here's another five minutes. Ten signs you're reading a fic by Troll Princess )

And now, for some fic recs ...

Cut because they've piled up some since the last time, and also for a spoiler if you've missed the last few episodes of Veronica Mars )

Holy Ground, by [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore (Supernatural, Sam/Dean) -- Sam and Dean run into a church to escape a demon and things get a little hot and heavy. As it is with most Wincest fics I love, my main reaction is, "GUH."

Comfort In You, by [livejournal.com profile] fickledame (Veronica Mars, Veronica/Logan) -- In which Logan keeps sneaking into Veronica's room looking for comfort. They are so adorably fucked-up, y'all.

Crooked Paths, by [livejournal.com profile] themonkeycabal (Stargate Atlantis/Farscape, Rodney and Crichton) -- All it took to get me to read this was the phrase "Well, of course Rodney would know Crichton." Because ... well, duh. ;)

Fic recs left: 676 fic recs

The Looming War on 'Truthiness' -- Did you ever get the impression someone's just not getting the joke?

Oh, and I may be able to start sending out [livejournal.com profile] apocalyptothon assignments today. You know, if I'm really, really, really lucky. *crosses fingers*
apocalypsos: (joy)
Wednesday, by [livejournal.com profile] khonen1 (Supernatural, John, Dean, and Sam) -- The reunion of the Winchesters. And there's hugging and and happy stuff and I didn't just cry over a fanfic except I really, really did. :)

According to Yahoo Weather, today it's supposed to be 50 degrees and tomorrow it's supposed to be 17 degrees. Make up your mind, weather! Jeez.
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
Credo Ut Intelligam, by [livejournal.com profile] fryadvocate (Supernatural, Dean) -- Dean's life as a lesson in Latin. Okay, I'm sorry, but the thought of Dean dorking out over Latin is just this side of TOO FREAKING HOT. ... ahem. :)

Qin Ge, by [livejournal.com profile] serrico (Firefly, River and Simon) -- An AU in which River is not the one used by the Alliance. It's creepy and haunting and I can't recommend it enough.

Yet Another SG-1 Adventure, by [livejournal.com profile] minnow1212 (Stargate SG-1, Jack POV) -- Oh, my GOD. If you have ever in your life seen an episode of Stargate SG-1, you have got to read this. I'm not going to spoil the surprise, but it is seriously hilarious.

The Chosen, by [livejournal.com profile] rinalin (Firefly, Jayne/Inara) -- Inara teaches a class at the Companion Training House with Jayne as a ... well, a prop, I guess you could say. Hee.

Three Kisses In A Fucked-Up Relationship, by [livejournal.com profile] storydivagirl (Supernatural RPS, Jensen/Jared) -- Exactly what it sounds like. And as for my reaction ... GUH. That about sums it up. Just GUH. (By the way, when I was reading this story, "Moonlight Cocktail" by Glenn Miller came on my mp3 player. Heh.)

Put Another Dime In The Jukebox, by [livejournal.com profile] voleuse (Lost, Shannon) -- Shannon's thoughts on being stuck on the island, on the other survivors, and on missing her iPod (which ... dude, I feel you).

It's been sunny and about fifty degrees the past couple of days and I've had to sleep through it. This sucks. With my luck, as soon as I get off work for my four-day weekend tomorrow, we'll get five feet of snow dumped on us. *grumbles*

And just for kicks, last night at work I got yelled at for something that was a simple miscommunication by two people who really just wanted to yell at one another and wouldn't have yelled at me in the first place if they'd bothered to ask me my side of the story before they went off. *headdesk* Oh, yeah, I definitely need a weekend like I need to lick cheesecake off Jensen Ackles's chest. (... what? What'd I say?)

[livejournal.com profile] unanon brought up a fannish Firefly pet peeve she has, and OMG YES. I'm so right there with that Spoilers for Serenity in here. )

Somebody suggest some good music with a beat you can dance or exercise to. I really need some new music. Pleeeeeeease? *bats eyelashes at friends list* ;)

Today's fic rec ...

Happy Hanukah, Veronica, by [livejournal.com profile] haleyj_the_bat (Veronica Mars, Veronica/Logan) -- Occurring around the events of the last episode, Veronica starts receiving small meaningful gifts at her door. Sweet, thoughtful, and in the end really freaking hot. It almost made me late for work just trying to finish reading it. :)

Annoying people on the Internet is now a federal crime. In other news, the Internet was shut down today, because everybody on it was fucking arrested. (How the hell do you make being annoying on the Internet a federal crime? Isn't that like making being a corrupt politician a federal crime? Oh, wait a sec ...)

In any event, you wouldn't think I could come up with more fic recs after sleeping all day, and yet here I am. I'm either stocking up in preparation for spending the last three months of the year in a cave or you people just need to stop writing great fanfiction. You're leaving me no other options here. ;P

Teasing And Cocksure, by [livejournal.com profile] voleuse (Arrested Development, Lindsay) -- Dude, Lindsay fic! And really, really good Lindsay fic to boot! The Lindsay voice is damn near perfect here, and all decent attempts at AD fic should be encouraged, because then there will be more. Oh, yes.

Three Letters Emily Gilmore Never Sent, by [livejournal.com profile] jae_w (Gilmore Girls, Emily Gilmore) -- Speaking of perfect character voices, I can tell a GG story is great when I can hear Kelly Bishop's and Lauren Graham's voices in my head as I read. I mean, not just because that's just Emily and Lorelei, but vividly in my head, as if they're sitting right next to me.

behind her silence lies, by [livejournal.com profile] escritoireazul (Lost, Sun) -- A beautiful portrait study of Sun. Sun fic ... yet another thing that should be encouraged. *nods solemnly*

Selected Recordings from the Audio Diary of Chiana, Chief Personal Advisor of Dominar Rygel XVI: The Arrival, by [livejournal.com profile] spicedrum (Farscape, Chiana) -- Following "Peacekeeper Wars", Chiana starts making voice recordings at John's suggestions. And of course she starts out reluctant before it turns into something else.

Whoever it is in this town who owns a car with a car alarm needs to get it taken the fuck OUT. Who exactly in this area do they think is going to steal their car? Sheesh.

In any event, more fic recs ...

The End And The Beginning: Five First Times, by [livejournal.com profile] scribblinlenore (Supernatural, Dean/Sam) -- Just exactly what it sounds like, and it's hot and dark and sexy. GUH.

Start Infinity Again, by [livejournal.com profile] voleuse (Doctor Who, Ten/Rose, Jack) -- Futurefic set after the Christmas Invasion, featuring Rose and the Doctor's changing relationship with Jack as witness (and instigator of sorts, but then again when is he not?) Sweet and adorable, but comfy just the way they're supposed to be. :)

The Best Sort of Blame, by [livejournal.com profile] casirafics (Doctor Who, Ten/Rose) -- Any well-written story that can get those two to hook up makes me all giddy and happy, but this one really made me spazz out. Because, well, the tickling. Hee!

Five Things Are For Certain, by [livejournal.com profile] addictedtojoy (Veronica Mars, bits of Veronica/Duncan and Veronica/Logan) -- After everything she's been through, Veronica knows five things for sure. The last part is just heartbreaking.

Between the Lines, by [livejournal.com profile] marinarusalka (Supernatural, Dean, John and Sam) -- Back in the day, John and the boys go on a hunting trip. Unsurprisingly, John and Sam are at odds, leaving Dean to play referee. Damn, did this make me laugh when I got home from work this morning.

Fire and Smoke, by [livejournal.com profile] whipper (Supernatural, Dean and Sam) -- A short moment after Dean and Sam finally destroy the thing that killed their mom and Jess.

Out Of Their Skies (The Light Has Died), by [livejournal.com profile] cesario (Firefly/Serenity, River) -- Follows the events of Serenity, so major spoilers for that. River finds something that may relieve some of the quiet stress a certain crew member is feeling.

I have two fics to work on this weekend, one Veronica Mars and one the plotbunny [livejournal.com profile] xphoenixrising threw at my head before running away giggling. I can't decide which one is harder. *whimpers*

And just for fun, I have to leave for work in an hour, and A Night To Remember is starting on TCM right now. *sigh* I so need to pick up a newspaper tomorrow morning so I can look for a new job.
apocalypsos: (boo praise)
Oh, I forgot to mention the girls who were in the showing of BBM I was at. They were the type of girls you really hope aren't going to show up in your theater who giggle at every damn remotely "OMG JAKE + HEATH R TOTALLY GONNA MAKE OUT EEEE!!1!1!" moment. I'm pretty sure after the first few times they did it, they either got shushed or realized every person in the theater was giving them death glares, because they quieted some after that. Not totally, but still.

One more fic rec before bed --

Vade Retro Satana, by [livejournal.com profile] _cee (Supernatural, Dean and Sam) -- More Holy Winchesters, Batman! fic, referring to the events of "Phantom Traveller". And I swear to God (*grabs a Bible and curses a blue streak over it*), no Wincest in this bit.

Four more fic recs, three of them from the FemGenFicathon ...

Twenty-Three, by [livejournal.com profile] goddessleila (Supernatural, Dean and Sam) -- Sweet but heartbreaking gen about a vision Sam has as a child of the girl he's going to marry.

Five Moments In a Life That Never Was, by [livejournal.com profile] cadhla (Doctor Who, Susan) -- I've never seen any other Doctor Who than the most recent incarnation and the TV movie (which I can't remember, which is probably for the best), so what I know of Susan is all through fanfic. But this is a lovely, poetic story about her that's just shiny. Oh, yes.

Two Decisions Joan Didn't Make For Herself (And One She Did) (Joan of Arcadia, Joan) -- Something God says to Joan leads to her starting a diary, which (unsurprisingly) leads to complications.

Real Women Are Not a Committee, by [livejournal.com profile] lunatic_z (Stargate Atlantis, Teyla) -- Teyla and the gang and Star Wars references galore. Very cool. :)

The femgenficathon master list and I Saw Three Ships stories are up and/or getting updated, and with that comes more fic recs from me. For the record, I haven't been able to go completely through both lists just yet, but in here are the first few I've read and liked. :)

Cut because there's eight stories recced here, and a few that aren't in either ficathon, by the way. )

So let's see ... Pat Robertson said Sharon had a stroke as divine punishment for dividing God's land. The author of "Bush's Brain" is on the No Fly List. Rep. Troy Woodruff of Indiana filed a bill to make abortion illegal in Indiana. Oh, and Fred Phelps is going to picket the funerals of the dead miners in West Virginia. (Actually, that move is pure genius, I must say, considering how many West Virginians are armed and how likely it is he'll make it out of the state alive after a move like that.)

In summation, my brain hurts. Which doesn't properly describe how any of these makes me feel, but it's either brain-hurty or fist-hurty after I punch my fist through the nearest wall.

So, in between trying to get that skirt finished on the crappiest sewing machine on the planet (I really need to invest in a new one), I bring you more fic recs. And yeah, I am going to double the number of recs, because if I can get up to seventeen recs in the first five days, I've already got a pretty good pace going. So seven hundred and thirty altogether, it is. :)

Don't Drive So Fast In The Daytime, by [livejournal.com profile] ignipes (Superntural, Dean and Sam) -- First of all, it's gen (for those of you tired of the Wincest, and as much I personally love it, I don't blame you), and not only that, it's excellent gen. Sam ponders their next destination one night in between flashbacks to his childhood. Cool and creepy all at once.

Watch, by [livejournal.com profile] nitesh_update (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, Tumnus, Peter, and Lucy) -- I'm not getting too technical with the must-have-posted-in-2006 on this one, particularly since it was only five minutes difference. ;) In any event, it's a lovely chat between Tumnus and Peter as they watch Lucy in the forest a few months after the defeat of the Witch.

Kneel, by [livejournal.com profile] aliaspiral (Firefly/Serenity, River/Jayne) -- An AU moment-in-time during the events of Serenity. (So obviously, spoilers for the movie.)

Blue, by [livejournal.com profile] mst3k_100 (Mystery Science Theater 3000, Tom Servo) -- A hysterical written statement by Servo about a minor incident on the Satellite.

Missionary, by [livejournal.com profile] mjules (Firefly, Mal/River) -- I should probably restrain myself from reccing WIPs, but I love this concept. It's AU in which River never gets rescued by Simon and after becoming an assassin for the Alliance is sent undercover to kill a dangerous Browncoat -- Mal Reynolds. It's a start, but it's a damn fine one.

Fic recs left: 713 recs (*whimpers*)
apocalypsos: (fic rec challenge)
Sheesh, at this rate, I should make it two fics for every day of the year, which comes out to ... seven hundred and thirty fic recs for the year? Damn. That sounds hard, and yet horribly tempting. Between the fic comms I read and the people on ye olde friends list (not to mention the five bajillion ficathons I've already signed up for or plan to sign up for this year), that might actually be doable. What do you think?

[Poll #645858]

And if I haven't already said and you haven't already noticed, I'm trying to restrict myself only to stories written or posted this year, so I can't cheat and go back to rec old stuff. In any event, the recs for tonight ...

Vespers, by [livejournal.com profile] _cee (Supernatural, Dean/Sam) -- More great stuff from the Holy Winchesters, Batman! universe. (Heh ... couldn't resist. ;)) Also, we have achieved Wincest! Yay!

You Gotta Love The Symbolism, by [livejournal.com profile] ladydisdain225 (Veronica Mars, Logan/Veronica) -- An encounter between Logan and Veronica following 2x10. I am such a hopeless case when it comes to well-written Logan/Veronica fic. Or well-written anything-but-Veronica/Duncan fic. Dude, the day I find a Veronica/Duncan fic I like is the day I'll keel over in shock.

And one more ... Divisible by Ten: Touch, by [livejournal.com profile] saganamidreams (Doctor Who, Rose/Ten) -- A very sweet, quiet moment between Rose and the Doctor following "Christmas Invasion". It's a really lovely analysis of the differences between Nine and Ten.

Fic recs left: 353 recs ... well, for now.

I think I need to make myself a Great Fic Rec Challenge of 2006 icon. Hmm.

Oh, and if anyone wants to rec anything in the comments, feel free, regardless of the fandom. I mean, don't rec yourself, because that's tacky, and I reserve the right to rec only the stuff that strikes my fancy. My personal fic rec challenge, my rules, know what I mean? But yeah, go ahead if you want. It'd make it a heck of a lot easier for me to find stuff. :)

EDIT: There! Icon. *G*
apocalypsos: (superpowers)
Ice in Crystal, by [livejournal.com profile] juliefortune (Firefly, Mal/Inara, Zoe/Wash) -- Okay, before you read this, go get chocolate, and a teddy bear, and maybe some cheesecake. Do you have a woobie? Because you might need a security blanket to read this.

Something Wrong With the Body Politic, by [livejournal.com profile] aliaspiral (Firefly/Serenity, Simon) -- Yeah, because after that first rec, what you're really going to need is so much more angst. But this is sad and scary all at the same time, featuring Simon's reaction when he gets his hands on the R. Tam Sessions.

Maneater, by [livejournal.com profile] witchofthedogs (Supernatural, Dean and Sam) -- A creepy story from the outside POV of a supernatural creature as it watches the Winchester brothers and assesses both their relationship and their place in the world.

Always Trying To Break Me, by [livejournal.com profile] sexycereal (Veronica Mars, hints of Veronica/Duncan and Veronica/Logan) -- A dark AU piece following "Normal is the Watchword" in which Veronica left the trip early for work, and there was no limo.

Fic recs left: 356 recs
apocalypsos: (boo running)
So, just for kicks and because I have a blast doing it, I decided that this year I'm going to do one fic rec for every day of the year. Three hundred and sixty-five fic recs for 2006, although probably in little clumps instead of one a day. (And if anybody else wants to do this, too, I highly encourage it, if only because I love knowing where the good fic is. ;))

Here's the first few:

The Hazards of Gametime, by [livejournal.com profile] literarylemming (Firefly, River/Jayne) -- River knocks Jayne out. Hysterically funny and really hot, just like Rayne should be.

The Cure of Souls, by [livejournal.com profile] _cee (Supernatural, Dean and Sam) -- More Dean-and-Sam-are-priests fic. The concept of it makes me so freaking happy, and the writing totally fits. It's like someone in the comments said -- they really are fighting a holy war of sorts, so the priests thing feels right.

An Inexplicable Tendency to Tap-Dance, by [livejournal.com profile] sadiekate (Veronica Mars, Logan/Veronica) -- The fallout from the events of the last few episodes. Logan and Veronica's relationship is not perfect and never pretty, but I could totally believe this is what comes next for them.

That's The Way The Cookie Crumbles, by [livejournal.com profile] permetaform (Stargate Atlantis, McKay/Sheppard) -- Awesome John/Rodney smut. The catch? They're cookies. Wait, don't go! Fucking gingerbread men ... literally! With icing nipples! It must be read ... oh, yes.

EDIT: Ooo, ooo! One more!

Extra Point, by [livejournal.com profile] kageygirl (Stargate Atlantis, McKay/Sheppard) -- John and Rodney watch this weekend's Patriots/Dolphins game and react to Doug Flutie's awesome drop-kick. I don't even like football and I thought that was cool, so you can imagine the reaction out of those two. ;)
