Okay, that's it.

Tell me something awesome about a woman you love in any fandom. Wax poetic. I want to hear people talk about what they love about female characters. And try to pick female characters or women in RPF who haven't already gotten love so we can spread it around.
And no bashing other people's comments!
You know what? I'm picking Boo. Yeah, okay, she's a very tiny woman. Who cares? She's silly and fun and adorable, and looking at an icon of her always makes me feel better, and she learns how to be brave right before our eyes. I heart that so much that I really wish I had the time to rewatch Monsters Inc. before I leave for work, but I don't, damn it.
Now you go. :)
EDIT: Guys, if you want to do more than one character, go nuts. The more, the merrier, right? \o/

Date: 2008-05-20 07:31 pm (UTC)Mary Winchester. We didn't get a lot of her in Supernatural but she's really what the show is about. She's kind of like the Golden Thread. And I loved what we did see of her. She seemed like a great mother and she cancelled herself out for her sons.
We can pick too? Holly Kennedy from P.S. I Love You. I can't really explain it...but by grieving for her husband she sort of found herself. She was an extremely strong character and I just loved her in the movie.

Date: 2008-05-20 07:33 pm (UTC)Growing up, my first and best role model was Princess Leia. No woman will ever be as amazing to me as she was. A brilliant leader, strong and brave, willing to fight and die for her beliefs. Although she was clearly trained in combat, her greatest weapons were words and the force of her personality. She led a revolution and helped shape a galaxy and I can't think of anyone more magnificent. It blows my mind that Lucas could create a character so fabulous in every way.

She is an incredible actress and singer and recently someone posted a video of her coaching a young girl for some kind of talent competition.
Her songs are gorgeous and she's just a fantastic woman all around.

"Maybe!"

Date: 2008-05-20 07:35 pm (UTC)And she's followed by Stella Bonasera from CSI:NY. I lack the words to describe how awesome Stella is. She's smart, she's strong, she's brave, she kicks ass, she refuses to let anyone treat her like a victim after she kills her abusive boyfriend, she has a fantastic platonic relationship with Mac, who is technically her boss, that's built absolutely on trust and understanding, she's funny, she's witty, she knows her way around a forensics lab and Tiffanys.
And then there's CJ Cregg, who is awesomeness personified. CJ is just the most amazing female character I've ever seen on TV and I totally want to be her when I grow up.

Date: 2008-05-20 07:41 pm (UTC)I still have my copy of that book from when i was a wee girl, and her strength and good common sense were a source of inspiration and comfort for me during some not so happy-ending times right up through my teenage years.

Date: 2008-05-20 07:41 pm (UTC)Also, if we can pick more than one (and yay for being able to):
Elizabeth Moon, who is a fantastic author, and her character of Paksenarrion from the self-titled series. A seriously kick-ass female mercenary who does all the adventuring and saving the day without worrying about whether it'll make boys like her or not.

Date: 2008-05-20 07:44 pm (UTC)She's tough enough to stand with (and scare!) the menfolk while comfortable enough with her femininity to be married and want children without any shame or apology. She fights for her way of life, she fights for her friends, she fights for her relationships and even in the midst of grief, she doesn't give up and she doesn't back down. She's tremendously loyal, smart...including smart enough to know when to hold her tongue. She's not afraid to give her opinion and she knows how to make it count.
