I double-checked the population of Wasilla against nearby towns just because I wanted to get an idea of just how tiny. It's about the size of Carbondale, which is maybe a ten minute drive from here. The only things Carbondale has over my hometown (which has about 2,000 people) are a real grocery story and the requisite fast food joints, and we're getting a Subway so that's out. I could probably run Carbondale if I wanted.
