I don't think it was God's plan to have a child, whose body is too immature for childbirth, carry the babies to term. Not to mention the fact that she would probably die herself. And the way they were conceived, MY GOD.

Humanity disgusts me sometimes.

They have lost their God. As one of the commenters points out, the Bible does not prohibit abortion or place any value on the life of an unborn child, certainly not over that of its mother. "God's law" is not what they say it is.

When I defend religion from the attacks of atheists, this is not what I am defending. This is a sad, evil sham that is not worthy to exist.

They have lost their God, and they dare not confront that fact. And every act of this kind brings closer the day when the truly faithful will realise that this empty shell of a church is a useless, perverted excrescence, and leave it and all the other God-forsaken churches behind to rot. They are obsolete, and their grip is the grip of death.

They have lost their God.

And people ask why I have such rage toward religion and Catholocism in particular.

They can turn a blind eye to the fact that an innocent child was raped because OMG the babeezzz!!1!!

They sicken me.

Because if the little girl had died, it just would have been God's will.

Yeah, bearing the kids to term--assuming that could even have happened--would have quite possibly killed her. But that's okay, because it's like two for one, right? Because her life means absolutely nothing, right? According to the Church, children are only loved and precious and valuable until they can't be mistaken in any way for adults. Apparently being raped and impregnated counts as being "adult," as far as misogynist Churchmen are concerned.

Fuuuuuuuuck the church.

The clergy are so far removed from reality they wouldn't recognize the right decision if it was sitting on their faces.

Yeah, so do I.

It's amazing how blind, how arrogant these catholic church clerics, priests, whatever, are. No grasp of reality, of what is right or wrong.

This is something so audacious and offensive, I almost feel like the bishop did it on purpose. Like he's a shock jock doing whatever'll get people talking about him, or in this case his church.

Maybe it's hard for me to believe that someone in a position of benevolent authority can be this disgusting and out of touch with the world.

Honestly, she probably wouldn't have even been able to carry them all the way to term. I've heard folks theorize that she would have died from it around the end of the second trimester, and while the remote possibility exists that a really good hospital might have been able to save the children at that point, it's no more than a 50-50 chance. Even very advanced hospitals here in the states don't have a good record of keeping children alive when they're born that prematurely.

I definitely think the right decision was made, and the church can go screw itself.

I wonder why the Church thinks the net loss of all three children is better than the guaranteed survival of one. I mean, they don't care about the girl as a human being, but you'd think they could at least do the math.

Yes, I'm very dark and bitter this morning. Maybe the girl and her mother can get amnesty to just totally go into hiding somewhere safe and away from asshole churchmen. That would have to be better than all this media attention and all this censure.

I imagine they presume that a nine-year-old getting pregnant is a miracle, therefore God wouldn't make her pregnant if he intended to kill her during the wonders of childbirth. (Never mind all the women who die exactly that way every day.)

Yes, this really disgusts me.

Of course, there's not even a suggestion that they excommunicate the stepfather. Apparently the Catholic church doesn't have a problem with child abuse. !news.

Honestly, the Catholic church and its doctrines are responsible for a hell of a lot of suffering in the world. Both historically and currently. It's not about love of God or thy neighbour. It's about power and obedience.
