apocalypsos: (sayid)
Oh, my God, I swear I spent all of today hibernating. I tried to go to sleep last night and didn't manage to do it until seven in the morning, and I've only been awake for maybe two hours since then. And I'm supposed to go bowling with the gang I went out with on Saturday, but I cannot begin to describe how much I am not in the mood to be in a bowling alley tonight.

The Super Bowl party was, it turned out, a wee bit annoying. Okay, a lot annoying. I was so tired after we got back from the bar the other night I slept a lot and didn't get up in time to make anything, even though I'd already told my mom I was making a dessert. (Dessert for a Super Bowl party? The hell?! Whatever.) Anyway, didn't get a chance to make it, which led to at least three people, who I should mention were thrilled that I'd gotten out of the house for once, ragging on me for not having the energy to get up and make something. One of them was my mother, and if I'd been a real asshat, I'd bring up that Christmas Eve three years ago when I came back from DC on an eight-hour bus ride only to come home and find my mom drunk after barhopping with her friends, which meant I had to be the one making Christmas Eve dinner. And here I usually just save that story so that I can bring up the hypocrisy of my mom yelling at my teenage brother the next day for having one Bacardi Silver in his room by himself when he knew he wasn't going to be driving anywhere. Drinking at home might be stupid (and even that is debatable, considering he's nineteen now and they let him drink at family parties as long as he's not driving anywhere), but at least he didn't have an entire Christmas dinner to cook. Sheesh.

Apparently, this post about using fanfiction as a tool to learn to write better popped up on [livejournal.com profile] metafandom. Dude, writing fanfic was probably the best writing exercise I've ever had. When I was in high school, I had a fabulous creative writing teacher, but the entire class mostly focused on poetry, which I'd rather shove nails into my arm than write. I got a little bit closer in college, because the first writing course I took focused on pop culture, so I got to be silly and write essays on the most fun stuff. (I still wish I had some of my assignments from that class. They were awesome.) It was only after I got into writing fanfic that I really got to play around. I credit writing fanfic for a lot of the stuff I've learned about writing since I left college.

Speaking of fanfic, I got my Remix assignment. OMG BIG CRAZY LOVE. Okay, is it bad that not only did I decide which story to remix in about six seconds, but that I'll probably get it done by midnight? Heh. I feel like that guy who showed up for the first episode of PR this season and told the judges it only took him eight hours to make his dress. *snickers*

Dear brain,

There are no prizes for beating a land-speed record finishing your Remix story. Just sayin'.

Sincerely,

The other parts of you
