Above the cut today, I'm putting Kari Callin, a singer. She's very sweet and her voice is lovely.

And the rest ... )

Maybe it's just me, but this season does seem to be a bit heavy with singers, doesn't it? Not that I'm complaining, but on some level we've had a singer win every year, really. Even Terry Fator sang, at least in part. I just would like someone who's not a singer win for a change, although we have had some fabulous singers this year. Hell, just as long as it's someone who's talented and deserves the break.

Argh.

It wouldn't be my family if a gathering of relatives didn't end in the sort of conversation where, using today's example, my mom's cousin announces that she's never ever EVER experienced anything remotely resembling sexism and her husband equates the BET Awards to the Ku Klux Klan.

It's no wonder so many of these end with me pretending to look at a watch and shouting, "Oh, look at the time! LOOK, I SAID. It's progressive-feminists-have-to-go-home o'clock!"

So ... yes. I had the job interview and the typing test today.

The job interview for the warehouse job went pretty good, I think. The HR guy said he didn't think I would have a chance with the job I applied for, but they're also hiring for another job he thought I might have a much better chance at. It's a 6-2:30 job, so I'd be home by three, it pays $11.50 an hour, and he wants me to come back tomorrow morning to have a tour of sorts with the supervisor of that particular section. I can't imagine he'd go that far if I didn't have a shot of getting the job.

(The pros -- good pay, early quit, easy and secure job. The cons -- no insurance for the first 90 days, highly intolerant of tardiness, it's at the top of a hill and it's going to be a bitch to reach in the winter in my lame Dodge Neon.)

As for the typing test ... well.

I got 73 wpm, which made the woman waiting to test behind me go, "WOW," and the secretary gape. According to the secretary, it's one of the highest scores they've ever had, not counting the guy who already works there who came out to the testing computer the day before and broke 113.

I take that as a VERY good sign. :)

(The pros -- office work, I can wear nice clothes to work for a change, a chance to apply for their home-based employment track from the inside. The cons -- I'm pretty sure the pay's lower on this job, I'll probably have to talk to people on the phone, I probably won't get off work until six or seven.)
