Almost there ...
Jan. 17th, 2011 08:26 amSchool starts this weekend, and I am only working four days this week as I plan to spend this Friday focused on picking up books and things for classes rather than going to work and generally spending the entire day with my head in the clouds.
There's also overtime to worry about this week. I told my boss I may come in for it just to keep the option open, but there's also the little matter of my writing. I haven't written anything in a while even though I've been trying to make the time, and I want to get something started or something worked on this week before classes, so that I don't take one more step away from my writing.
Seriously, even though I'm majoring in Communications with a focus on Creative Writing, I feel like going back to school is partially abandoning my writing, simply because it's going to take up so much of my time. It didn't help that I found out the other day through one of the company emails that one of the administrative assistants who transferred to the new Medicaid department majored in the exact same thing. It made me feel for a brief moment like, "Great, I'm choosing a call center over my writing, aren't I?"
I'm not, God knows, but one is currently in limbo and one isn't -- I'm getting the yearly pay increase/job status rise in March for being there for a year -- so that was sort of frown-inducing.

The Golden Globes! Which I watched last night!
My thoughts:
-- Why would you hire Ricky Gervais to host your awards show, then be all shocked -- SHOCKED I TELL YOU -- when his jokes are mean-spirited and pull no punches? That's what he DOES.
-- I am very happy that Colin Firth won Best Actor, I really was. He and James Franco have so far had my two favorite male lead performances of the year, so I'd be pleased with either one heading off with a Best Actor Oscar this year, but it's looking to be Colin's year and I'm more than proud to let him do it. And I loved his comments about his wife. They always look adorable together on the red carpet.
-- Speaking of people whose year has come, good for Christian Bale for winning Best Supporting Actor. I know I said it after seeing The Fighter, which I highly recommend (and that's impressive coming from me, as I normally hate boxing movies), but his performance is his best work of his career and he's more than deserved some props for his devotion to his acting for a while now.
-- And speaking of The Fighter, Melissa Leo! Melissa Leo, who won even though I was positive HBC would take it, and who gave a fantastic giddy acceptance speech and just for a repeat performance she NEEDS to win the Oscar. Seriously, I'm not even joking when I say how much she deserved that Golden Globe for her performance in The Fighter. Her character and Christian Bale's tear the place apart from start to finish. Every scene they're in is golden.
-- I was really happy that Natalie Portman won, and for once I loved the maternity dress she wore.
-- I cheered when Jane Lynch won and REALLY went nuts when I found out about Chris Colfer's win, but was disappointed about the show winning Best Comedy. They're the best things about a really inconsistent second season, and it just made me grimace once again that Community wasn't nominated for jack shit.
-- Claire Danes' completely expected win for Best Actress in a Miniseries Or TV Movie wasn't half as happy-making as seeing Temple came to the show as well.
-- For the longest time I couldn't recognize Emma Stone even though I knew a while ago that she dyed her hair back to its original blonde. I did think she looked lovely in her gorgeous peach dress, but it also makes her look a whole lot more fragile and delicate somehow than the red hair did, and now she looks like an entirely different and almost run-of-the-mill actress. A very pretty one, don't get me wrong, but still.
