If you find that you can get a new laptop, I suggest checking overstock.com for them. It's how my parents were able to afford to get my step-sister one for Christmas. They're mostly refurbished but pretty good prices.
And if you haven't, apply for food stamps in your area. I've gritted my teeth and did so and it helps. You might be also able to get a discount on your power bill if you qualify. *HUGS*
