I'm starting to get the impression I'm the only person on the planet who liked LXG. That's so sad. Poor, poor movie full of cute guys, and ... um ... nice costumes and ... um ... cute guys ...

Heeeeeey ... my hormones are making me like the movie! *user smacks her hormones with a rolled-up newspaper* Bad hormones! No Orly for a week!

Hey, I'm sure I'll love it, when I see it. All Sean Connery has to do on screen is SPEAK and I'm having a good theatrical experience. And just the previews have Stewart Townsend looking yummy. I'm thinking, yeah. Movie goodness.

AW *don't get me started on Pirates...my brain overheats just thinking about it at this point...*

If Johnny Depp doesn't get nominated for an Oscar for this one (and damn it, he should), then the Academy is staffed with moronic troglodytes.

Ah, but remember. The academy IS staffed with moronic troglodytes. Remember the "we're sorry you haven't won an oscar before, here ya go, despite the fact you did nothing this year to deserve it" awards a couple years ago?

Oh, there's one of those every year. I just consider it lucky that last year, Roman beat out Martin Scorcese for Best Director because he damn well deserved to. They came really, really close to giving it to Martin even though Roman did the better job simply because of Roman's past, which, while sordid, doesn't have a thing to do with "The Pianist" being a masterpiece.

I'm still irritated "The Pianist" apparently had the best script, the best director, and the best actor, yet wasn't the best picture. Welcome to the Academy, ladies and gents. Grrr. (Psssst ... did you see it yet? I'd be watching it right now if I hadn't let my co-worker take it for the weekend. He's got excellent taste -- he saw the first hour and couldn't take his eyes off it. :))

No, not yet. Don't trout me. I'm still getting caught up on the movies I missed last year. Hell, I'm still getting caught up on the ones I missed this year. Planning an X2/Daredevil double feature this afternoon at the cheap theater.

Wonder if the Hyatt provides vcrs? I've got two days of down time once I get to atlanta before the con starts, and at least one of my roomies is behind as I am. Of course, she has an excuse (canadian). Mine must just be I'm cheap and hated going to movies alone. Getting over that...

TP, I'm saying the exact same thing.

Depp is BRILLIANT in PotC!!!!

Can't wait to see it again--

Even my daughter--die hard Bloom-ite--has decided Depp is HOT and her most favorite actor (for now)

LOL.

Actually, sounds good.

TP, I haven't seen the LOXG (is that how it is done?) yet but we intend to.

I totally loved it and do not understand the people who say it was nothing like the comics.

Not to knock the film, but have you read the comics? Mina is the leader, and she isn't a vampire. Dorian Grey and Tom Sawyer are not present. The villain is Professor Moriarty. The humour is based around mockery of Victorian prejudice, and would probably come across as gross racism on screen.

The film may be wonderful (It's not released here, yet). However, it's certainly a long way from the comics.

*raises hand as well*

I thought it was an okay movie, myself. Not really a great plot, but enough pretty boys to keep me occupied in the lapses.

And then there was Nemo, who I thought was cool as hell.

I have indeedy read the comics. Well, okay, I've read the first volume, because I do not wish to spoil myself as I collect them in volumes. (Though, yeah, I get that I'm spoiling myself by reading up on the movie and such.)

What I mean by people saying it's nothing like the comics is not so much the character additions and things, but the general feeling of it, which is of course a very nebulous thing. Visually, the movie grabbed me completely, and it had this great snarky humor, which was was I liked the books.

I think it was a very good adaptation and I'd personally rather have a movie-adaptation that was adapted well to it's cinematic qualities as opposed to staying intensely true to the original source material and being uninteresting.

Of course, I'm not a League fanatic--there are other comics I'm far more passionate about and think are far more fantastic--so for me, it really came down to how it didn't degrade the characters, and how it was so pretty! And I really did enjoy it. ^^

And that was way more than you wanted.
