apocalypsos: (fuck you)

It's six a.m. on a Saturday and I'm awake. Fuck you, inner alarm clock.

Urgh. My hair pisses me off. If I wash it before I go to bed, by the time I get up in the morning it's not only all soft, but it ends up all wild and wavy like Julia Roberts's hair used to be in the early '90s. Which, you know, would be nicer if it were past my shoulders and didn't look like a mop at this stage. *ruffles hair* Grow, you stupid hair! Grow!

Saturdays are the only day *worth* getting up early on, because of the inanity of early morning kids TV!

...except everyone now has cable/sky/digital and various cartoon networks thus negating my point and DESTROYING MY FAITH IN THERE BEING A POINT TO LIFE!

*sigh* You miss the '80s as much as I do, don't you?

I miss getting up to watch Jase and the Wheeled Warriors, with the randomly eighties theme tune, and Captain Planet who had a MULLET, and... what was that thing with the random popstars, one of whom had pink hair? Jem something?

Oh, God, Jem. And The Wuzzles and Gummi Bears and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and X-Men, for which I actually cut the fake trading cards out of the Fox kids newsletter and taped them to cardboard and hoarded them like a great, freaky thing.

same hair - only mine is slightly longer than yours and therefore curls upwards on itself :S

I had *such* a crush on Gambit. And GUMMI BEARS! Hells yeah. And, round the world in 80 days, which even as a *kid* disturbed me because Jules Verne was a lion and he was shagging a *CAT* and that can't be comfortable.

OMG, the very best thing about the Gummi Bears for me in the past few years was when I was in my car one day and the DJs at the local radio station in PA were discussing Saturday morning cartoons. One of the DJs claimed he could remember nearly all of the theme songs, so he encouraged people to call in with "requests" for him to sing.

Some guy called in and requested the Gummi Bears song, and me and the DJ both broke into the song at the top of our lungs. (The other two DJs who were on the radio were like, "We've never even heard of that cartoon!" Hmph. Losers.)

My hair does the mop thing too, but it's blue, so it...um...kinda works. Or maybe I've just stopped noticing when people point and laugh. :-)

If someone else was singing it I *totally* could. Now? Mind blank.

Best 80s cartoon moment for me was that NO ONE in the entire WORLD had heard of Jase and the Wheeled Warriors. Eventually I gave up asking, and thought this weird tale of cars and plants and such was a product of my diseased imagination. Then, one day, not only did my exceedingly coolandpunk friend mention it without prompting, he then proceeded to sing me the *entire* song.

Aah, happy days. :D

It's six a.m. on a Saturday and I'm awake

I woke at 4:35 and thought, "Oh, crap, I've only got half an hour to sleep. I might as well get up and make coffee."

I actually made it out of bed before I remembered. Hee. I was the happiest woman in the universe.

We don't have cable. We have three kids. Therefore, the grand tradition of Saturday Morning Cartoons is still alive and well in the Tark-n-Dryad household. Girl loves "The WINX club" which is about girls training to be fairies. There's also TMNT still (which I must pimp because my cousin does one of the voices), and even though many cartoons have fallen by the wayside....there's SHAMAN KING to take up some of the slack.

So...all is not lost and some kids aren't ruined for SatMoCars.
