Bush keeps this country safe, which you can tell because there are almost 400 tons of explosives missing from Iraq. But that's okay, because terrorists only needed a pound of this stuff to blow up the plane over Lockerbie and they couldn't possibly know what to do with 760,000 pounds of the stuff.

*sigh* Thank God this election is only a week away from being over.

EDIT: I just have to add that in the last week of an election this close, anybody who believes anything Bush or Kerry say to cajole more votes out of undecided voters is asking for it. I wish we could just muzzle the both of them for the next week and just debate meaningless crap about them, like how cheap it must be every year for Kerry to trick or treat for Halloween when all he has to do is slap on green face paint and moan, or how Bush couldn't come up with something he'd done wrong during his presidency when "Boy, I shouldn't have eaten that pretzel" would have been acceptable.

GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT OF EDIT: I have a dare for you all.

Say something nice about the candidate you like least.

And no backhanded compliments. They have to be real compliments. Like for Bush, I'll just say that the man seems to have an easy time making friends. (In that case, I would not be allowed to add that he seems to have just as easy a time making enemies. Because that's too easy. Dude, complimenting a guy you dislike is hard.)

PUPPY OF THE GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT OF EDIT: And just so you know, I will call you on it if it's not a real compliment. (Or at least, I'll try to.) "Kerry has great taste in women because Teresa is cool" is okay -- "Kerry has great taste in women because Teresa is rich" is not. "Bush has a good sense of humor" is okay -- "Bush sucks, but his mom is cool" does not.

I have little to no trouble imagining that if terrorists invaded the White House, Bush would snipe them from the top of the armoire in the Lincoln Bedroom. He would probably go down fighting.

I think George Bush as a person is a likeable guy with a terrific sense of humor.

Bush's non-backhanded compliment: I would really like to drink beer and watch football with the guy. He seems like he'd be fun to hang out with, as long as we didn't talk politics. He sort of radiates that fun frat-boy energy, and though that's not really the kind of person I normally hang out with, I can appreciate some good-old-boy fun from time to time.

*shiver* Writing that made my soul want to crawl out through my ears.

Bush knows how to look lost and helpless in a way that appeals to my non-existent maternal instincts. That might sound backhanded, but it really isn't. I think it's a redeeming quality when you go through the harships of a politician career and still know how to pull a look like that afterward.

Er...

He looks okay in shirtsleeves, unlike many politicians who tend to resemble a bratwurst which somebody has dressed in Ken clothes.

Uh... Bush has nice taste in Barbeque? (and I won't add the part about serving it for inaugeration proving he's a hick. I won't.)

Bush's non-sarcastic comment-his wife is a champion of literacy and also generally getting people to read more. Bush seems to be supportive of that.

Oh, I'll give him that. If he lives in Texas some of the time, he's probably got excellent taste in barbecue. (And personally, I've got no problem with serving it at the inauguration. Barbecue's all-American, and damn yummy, too. Mmmm, barbecue. Great, now I'm hungry. :))

I generally like Bush's smile. He's also a dog person, which is a good thing for me. And I've heard some good things about the way he treats his Secret Service from people who might know. Especially in comparison to Clinton, who was apparently a bitch in that department. (I love Clinton, but I can believe that.)

So yeah, he's got some good attributes. I think he's probably a nice guy. I just don't agree with his politics and the priority he gives to certain things.

Although I strongly disagree with how he acts upon it, I respect Bush for having a strong sense of faith and morality.

He does seem like a nice guy. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] malhablada, he would be allright hang out with as long as discussion stayed far away from religion and politics.

It's definitely the Texan thing. I hate to admit it (I'm from Chicago) but Texas has amazing barbecue. (It just seemed a bit... weird. You've got people in formal attire eating messy barbecue pork and ribs and such. It just seemed wierd. :D)

I was thiiiiiis close to calling you on that, but hey, whether you agree or disgree, there's still that respect going on. :) (Personally, I respect him for having faith, too, but like you, I can't respect the way he executes that faith.)

I like that mental image. I like the thought of a government full of politicians who can eat burgers and BBQ in formal attire. :)

Something about the candidate I like least: I think he's basically a good man and that's proven by how many people around him are so loyal (he must do something to earn that loyalty).

Honestly, I'm having a hard time coming up with anything complimentary about either of them.

I lose. No, wait, America loses.

(Isolated rant: Are these two really the best we could fucking do?)

Damn, this is hard.

George and Laura seem to be a happy couple, and they have raised their daughters into bright, but still fun-loving young women, under what can only be thought of as extremely difficult circumstances.

*whew*

Now, come on. You have to come up with something. "I wish I were as tall as Kerry." "Bush would be fun to watch a baseball game with." Anything. Too many people are being way too negative about two men who, love 'em or hate 'em, are just guys. Maybe not the best politicians we could have come up with, but still.

And then there's Nader. And you can always write in a candidate. (I swear to God, if this weren't such an important election, I'd write in Barack Obama.)
