Okay, so a little more detailed post of my thoughts on tonight's episode.

Okay, first off, Gary. NTAC's use of Gary's telepathy to get exactly what it needs without giving him much of a choice about the whole thing looks to be a bit of a tipoff as to what's going to get them "punished" in the long run. The government is starting to look at these people not as people, but as objects or weapons to be used to get exactly what they want. Allowing them to live their lives without interference as the Powers That Will Be indicated in their talk with Tom last season doesn't seem to be in the cards if NTAC's in control, and that's got to be where the punishment comes into the picture.

Then again, think about where the Powers That Will Be dropped their great big ball of light off, or more aptly, when they left it. They may have left it at a specific turning point in history, but they also dropped it at a time in this nation's history when the issue of the government interfering with the privacy of its citizens is a big concern (like with the Patriot Act). The PTWB already spent last season garnering sympathy for the 4400 in the public eye. If it gets out that NTAC and the rest of the government are perfectly willing to manipulate or blackmail the 4400 to do secret little missions or whatever they have planned for them, that might not go over so well.

Which brings up a creepy thought -- what if Jordan knows something the rest of us don't? (Perhaps because of Isabelle's attack on him?)

Which brings up an even creepier thought -- what if Jordan is really the good guy?

Okay, so he probably isn't. But just imagine that scenario. If the 4400 really are meant to do something to save mankind, and "We're in a war", and the government becomes fixated on using the 4400 for ... whatever they want, pretty much, then if Jordan turns out to want to protect the 4400, that makes him the good guy, and that could get reeeeeeeeally interesting.

But like I said, probably won't happen.

It makes me wonder, though. What if Jordan were supposed to end up with Isabelle? Obviously, it's a bad idea, and also obviously, it's not going to happen. But think about it. Lily's already shown a tendency to gloss over Isabelle's more dangerous inclinations. Richard is distrustful of his own daughter. Isabelle has to be meant for great things, and you have to wonder about a future civilization that would create a child who can kill without compunction. Okay, she's a baby and doesn't know any better, but ... the hell? That's like leaving out a bomb with a big red button on the top that says, "Push this!" And Lily doesn't seem all that eager to discourage her from doing things like that, while Richard spends most of his time around her all suspicious and hesitant.

And there's another thing concerning Gary that's curious. It's the same thing that's weird about Tess's power suddenly kicking in -- that it took them this long before their abilities manifested. If their abilities stem from some sort of dormant neural pathway thing, then why weren't they on from day one? Do they all have some kind of biological egg timer that goes off exactly when they're supposed to be manipulating history for the Powers That Will Be?

But anyway, back to Isabelle, or more specifically, what she did to Richard. What the hell did she do to him? Let's see, what are the options --

1.) It was a warning pain. "Don't piss me off, Daddy. I WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP HARDCORE."
2.) It was a flash of impending danger, the same kind of painful alarm that she used to give Lily in utero.
3.) It was a flicker of her making him do exactly what she wanted him to. "Now, Daddy, no more arguing. Let's just stop fighting and GET IN THE GODDAMN TRUCK."

I'm really afraid it's #1, but that seems the most likely option at this point. I'd like to think it's #2, but I highly doubt it. As for #3 ... okay, that would just be really fucking creepy.

And off to Maia, who really needs Diana to sit her down next week and say, "Listen, sweetie, you don't have to tell me predictions if you don't want, because you're my daughter and I love you and I'm not afraid of that. But if you don't want people to bug you about the clairvoyant thing, then just don't say anything, which you've been doing perfectly well for the last few months." Because, seriously, that kid needs someone to stand there and go, "You be exactly who you want to be and I won't judge you or use you," and I have a feeling having Aunt April around isn't going to do a hell of a lot to help with that if she figures out about the clairvoyant abilities.

As for Shawn ... starting to feel a little distrustful of Jordan, sweetie? I do really wish Gary had mentioned the thing about "we're in a war" in front of Shawn, but I get the impression he's not supposed to know about that. Although, if he had, I'm not exactly sure that he would have done anything about it, especially with Tom and Diana barging in like that. He's just going to keep butting heads with Tom at this rate just because he can and because the two of them are so incredibly stubborn.

And there's Jordan, who up to this episode has:

-- planned a coup in a foreign country in a presumed attempt to get the 4400 their own island nation.
-- started some weird pseudo-Scientology knockoff with Shawn as its public prettyboy and private messiah.
-- written a book which told the world exactly who and what the 4400 are.
-- spent a great deal of time and effort to get his hands on Isabelle.

So, wait -- what good reason did the PTWB have for taking Jordan and sending him back again?

That thought about what it'd be like if Jordan were really a "good guy" isn't exactly outside the realm of possibility, although it probably won't happen. But still, the thought ... it establishes the First Annual All-Week Plotbunny Fuck-O-Thon in my brain.

Hee. This show makes me ponder weird plotlines like mad. ;)
