Okay. So I want to talk about the 4400 spoilers I read about next new episode's big heaping plot thingy and what it all means, so I'm going to. So there. ;P

So.

Jordan dies.

Granted, this should not be a surprise if you really think about it. Hell, telling Shawn that he was leaving everything to the kid just in case was pretty much a death knell for the character, but yeah, according to the spoilers I read, Jordan bites it.

But the cool part? Kyle's the one that shoots him.

First off, what does it mean to have Jordan die now? Obviously, he's had a good year and a half or so to do what he was sent back to do, but what exactly is that? He's shown absolutely no signs of powers, unless you count the odd things that have happened to him that could more easily explained as being Isabelle's fault. So if he wasn't given any superhuman abilities, why take him?

Because he had power, that's why. Power and money.

Jordan has been shown not only as someone that has power, but who craves more of it. Unlike many of his fellow abductees, he hasn't been away that long, so his power and his money are still secure when he returns. This means that when he needs to get on a TV show and promote the 4400 like he did last season, he can easily do that. If he wants to give the 4400 a place to go, he can garner the money needed to do so. If he wants to get a book published and get the message of the 4400 out there, he can do that, too.

The Powers That Will Be didn't have to give him the ability to heal or telepathy or anything like that. Jordan's already powerful in his own right -- a successful businessman, a known celebrity, a charming multimillionaire. We're talking about a guy who doesn't need superstrength to get things done. He's charismatic, persuasive, intelligent.

And he's the guy who can not only give the 4400 an acceptable and familiar public face, but who can also put Shawn into a very powerful position.

Sure, the Powers That Will Be could have given Shawn's abilities to Jordan. But think about what he would have done with those abilities. Shawn is a good man with a good heart, surrounded by people more than willing to take advantage of him, and that includes Jordan. But underneath it all, Shawn is still a guy who means well, above all else. Meanwhile, Jordan's motives are always questionable. Just imagine what he'd do if he were the one able to heal or kill with simply a touch. Shawn may be a dope sometimes, but if the kindheartedness he displayed tonight with the homeless kids is any indication, there's a damn good reason that Shawn got those powers and not Jordan. It all rests on which one of them would be more easily corrupted by such a gift.

I know I toss around the word "messianic" a lot when it comes to Shawn's storyline, but honestly, if Jordan is the one who dies like the spoilers said, you're going to have a healer with a good heart in a position to do an extraordinary amount of good on a large scale. We don't even know how they view Shawn in the future. It's entirely possible that in this future of theirs, Shawn is their Jesus.

Does that sound stupid? Maybe a little, but think about what would have happened if they'd done the same thing to another kid, except two thousand years ago. And I've been to four different baby name websites, and all of them pretty much say the same thing about "Shawn" -- that it means something like "God gave" or "God is gracious." Sure, it probably isn't how it'll turn out in the long run, but they're sure setting him up for something like that.

(I'd just like to interrupt this ramble to point out that now I desperately want to write fic where that's exactly what happens to him.)

Anyway, what does it mean for Kyle to shoot Jordan?

Okay, first off, if the Powers That Will Be have everything planned out precisely, then I still don't think it was an accident that Kyle was injured and Shawn was taken on that beach. Obviously, they needed Shawn if that messiah theory holds up. But what if they changed Kyle because he was specifically meant to be their "super soldier" through which they can do exactly what they want? I know I've tossed that theory out before, but now I'm starting to wonder if they haven't got some way to use Kyle as a way to observe how their little experiment is turning out.

And that's what happening to his missing chunks of time. That the Powers That Will Be switch on their little machine to check things out, and Kyle's brain shuts down. Hell, the past two times that it's happened, he's come to in the middle of doing something destructive -- breaking a window with a garbage can and spilling orange juice all over the kitchen. Something tells me the next time he wakes up doing something destructive, it won't be something he likes.

That's the thing, though. With Kyle, if they are using him to observe, they've got someone in a very unique position. He's Shawn's cousin, which both gives him access to Shawn and the 4400 Centers, and his father works for NTAC as the lead investigator. He's got a very specific connection to both sides, if you can consider NTAC and the 4400 as different sides.

If Kyle shoots Jordan, and does it during one of his "moods," he won't remember, he'll still have access to NTAC through his father, and now he'll have unhindered access to the 4400 Center through Shawn.

Which leads me back to a very interesting thought -- what happens if "Mommy's bosses will be punished for betraying us" refers not to something NTAC does to the 4400 themselves, but to Kyle, in such a way as to make contact with the Powers That Will Be?

Ahem.

Don't mind me. I just needed to talk about the Big Heaping Plot Thingy, considering the lack of a new episode for two whole weeks. *whimpers*
