You know when you were in school, and they gave you that one test where it said very specifically in the directions, "Please read through the quiz carefully before beginning", and then you did, and the last entry was, "Put down your pencil and do not answer a single question on this test"? And then you could always tell who actually HAD read the directions just from looking around?

Er ... yeah.

I had a test like that when I was in third grade. The last instruction told us to complete three of the above, which were to put your name here and the date there and to hand in your paper to the teacher.

The other instructions involved things like standing on your chair counting backwards and flicking the lights on and off.

I can't swear to being the only kid that sat quietly and handed in their test, but there sure were a lot of eight-year-olds yelling and running around.

Hey! You're well connected... right? Er...

Hi there! Long time lurker/friend(ish) uhm... yeah. (Feeling a little awkward). Well, in case you haven't noticed, I'm putting up a Webzine for Scifi and Noir. I've noted you seem pretty well connected with the writer crowd here on LJ I was wondering if you could give me a couple of tips as far as how I might go about trolling for submissions (what's acceptable, who/where is best to ask, that kind of thing). If you wouldn't mind giving a fledgling editor a hand I would greatly appreciate it. I might even be up for tossing a no-flower your way. Or even some no-candy!

After a few moments of yawning uncertainty, I've decided that you can't possibly be referring to the fact that I submitted seven characters from just two different fandoms. I'm innocent, I tell you.

... I did manage four different versions of Sean Bean. Only two of Eliza Dushku, though.

Nope, you're fine. Two different sets of fandom characters, I can handle. (After all, you didn't stick to just one and you did manage to come up with twenty-five all by your lonesome. ;))

OK, now I'm paranoid I've read the instructions wrong or misunderstood them.

...and there was this one whiny smartarse kid who kept insisting they had a reason for not doing what the paper said?

Hi. Last time my submission said Waluigi, and the pairing list ended up with just Luigi. So I felt the need to differentiate this time.

So, if on my list I include, "Peter Parker, the guy who is also Spider-Man and loves Mary Jane except he says she doesn't only he does and that one time he has to hold up a wall from crushing her and it's really heavy and also he got bit by a spider that did this to him and when he's being a superhero he wears a mask except when the train thing happens, then not so much and he feels guilty about his uncle," would that be too much information, then?

:D

No, you were fine, too. :) (There was just a few people who only put down one or two characters or put down one huge block of the same fandom. Which I'm not going to make a big fuss about, but honestly, it's not that difficult to come up with twenty-five characters.)

Never have I seen a list where so many people failed to submit the requisite number of characters. *bemused*

I mean, you've done submission rounds with fairly complex guidelines--like that one that involved icons--and people were fine. Why is 25 names suddenly hard to fill? And... in the way it is? I suppose I could get a few people mumbling they could only come up with fifteen or so, but... not, like, four, or eight.

This calls for evil measures. >.> <.<

Hey, what was the stance on real people? I yearn to submit The Iron Chef of Your Choice, but I suspect it's a no-go.

Oh good. I thought you were referring to how I honestly spaced putting down "comicverse, any" after Johnny Storm even though I specified which Remy LeBeau I meant.

*clears throat*

Ha ha ha!

Stupid people. ;)

Nah, that's not a big thing at all. If someone doesn't point out a specific version of a character, it just means they can use any version of the character that fits. :)

Excellent! *throws a Mythbuster onto the stack as well*

I'm actually finding glancing at Yuletide's list of fandoms from last year to be helpful in reminding me of stuff I'd otherwise forget.
