Feb. 11th, 2006 11:27 amOkay, so. Valentine's Day is a few days away and I'm not getting any of you anything.
Really, in all seriousness, I love the whole great big lot of you, because you're entertaining as all get-out and you're encouraging and I love waking up every morning and checking out the goings-on of my thousand closest friends. ;P
Anyway, here's the thing. I can count the number of times I think I may have gotten something for Valentine's Day on one hand. (Don't even get me started on New Year's -- I know damn well I've never been properly kissed on New Year's.) And I can't afford to buy you all candy, not even those uber-yummy Gertrude Hawks white chocolate snowmen with the dark chocolate center. (And I know lots of people don't like one or the other or both, but even as someone who loathes dark chocolate, I would punch a nun to get a box of those. Seriously.)
So here's what I was thinking. I'm starting a meme. (Yeah, because five thousand links to the Johari window just aren't enough.)
Post a link to your fan fiction. (Mine, while I'm setting this up, is right through here.) The goal is this -- when you spot the meme, click on the link to that person's fanfic and pick something you haven't read before or never commented on when you did read it. The goal is to send positive feedback for something that you genuinely love reading. No negative feedback (after all, it's Valentine's Day, and we're all about showing the love) and no constructive criticism (since even when it's done nicely and is meant well, it can sometimes go the wrong way). Point out lines you loved, style choices you adored, that hot little thing that happened in the middle of the smut. Anything that you love to pieces.
You can do it as many times as you want for anybody you want but hopefully you should try to do it every time you see the meme. This way, for the next week or so, people will be getting all kinds of nice comments from people about their stuff, and I don't know about anybody else, but that always makes me happy. :) Plus, you might read something new that you missed before.
I know this doesn't work for everybody, since not everybody writes fanfic, but for those that do, it's one small thing that just brightens the hell out of their day. (And heck, I don't see why it can't be done for fan art or vids or whatnot.)
Anybody else game? ;)
EDIT: Just for the record, I'm going to start bopping around everybody's fanfic tomorrow, just 'cause I've got to go grocery shopping right now and then I have to go to work at five.

Feedback
Date: 2006-02-12 12:33 am (UTC)It's been a long time since I laughed at a fanfic. The humor in this was perfect for the characters. Bobby was very in voice, and the line about "Waking up naked on top of Logan is the third leading cause of death among males* just had me falling off my chair.
The reactions to Bobby's pregnancy, although varied, were beautiful, and Hank's warped sense of humor shines brightly. And Rogue's dimmer switch makes me happy as well.
