So I'm back from going to see Pirates.

The kiss and all of the Jack/Elizabeth hints just ... GYAH. That's just a little bit gross. Or, you know, a lot. I love Jack, but mostly because he's freakishly amusing and not because he's the least bit attractive. Just because Johnny Depp's under that costume doesn't mean Jack's hot -- hello, pirate hygiene problems -- so every time I think of Jack having sexual atrraction with anyone ... yuck.

The movie was okay. Not as good as the first, but not bad at all. I think I'm going to like it better when I see the third movie. I did like everyone a little better in this movie, though, especially Elizabeth. And I did like the little "wink wink, nudge nudge" moments in reference to the first movie, even if there were so many of them I was starting to think Gore Verbinski had developed a nervous tic in his eye and a spastic twitch in his elbow.

That dog? AWESOME. :)

I was driving home from work and started wondering if there was a local reference guide for people who want to write fanfic for The Office. 'Cause dude, if anybody could write something like that, I could totally do it.

Whereas I could give or take Johnny Depp. It's Captain Jack Sparrow that I have the world's biggest crush on. And yet, there are two conflicting thoughts. One is, what I wouldn't give for a day in the Caribbean with a deserted island, a bottle of rum, and Captain Jack Sparrow! The other is... he wouldn't be half as sexy without the costume on.

I completely agree. And I am utterly jealous of those who've seen the movie already. I keep watching the trailers, such a d00b.

I love when he first sees Elizabeth and turns to Gibbs. "Hide the rum."

Dude, yes. I mean, he's a beautiful thing, and he's so pretty to look at at so lovely to watch.

But all I could think about when they were snogging was PIRATE BREATH. HOLY CRAP. HE'S SO DIRTY. PIRATE BREATH!

You know Johnny Depp said Jack is kind of gay, right?
And here I came after spoilers... geez, I'm hopeless.

I'm of the growing conviction that all Captain Jacks are of the "would do just about anything, really, regardless of gender or tentacles" orientation.

I just came from fanfiction.net (yes, I know. I was asking for it), and I'm puzzled by all the j/e stuff which has her pining all over him. (again, yes, I know). I mean, johnny makes captain jack sparrow incredibly charismatic and charming and funny - I'm a big fan of the bloke - but he did some really scuzzy things in the movie.
Will and Elizabeth have basically put their lives on the line for him, and how does he treat them? He *sells Will's soul into torture* so he doesn't have to fulfil a bargain he made before he met them! And then tries to seduce said friend's fiance, who the friend's been in love with since early childhood, who would be his wife if they hadn't helped Jack!
And why exactly would Elizabeth give up the man who would die for her, who would literally give her his heart if she asked, who she herself has fought for (in her everyday life among Society - as proven by the fact that they had gotten all the way to the altar - as well as with a sword) for a man who will abandon her the minute after he's had her?
As I remarked to a friend about the first PotC, Jack's never going to stay with a woman. His true love's always going to be the Pearl. He literally sold his soul for that ship. He doesn't really have a heart left to give, and Elizabeth's too practical for unrequited love.
If Jack had pulled the same shit on someone I loved that he did on Will, I'd have left him to the Kraken myself. I rather think Elizabeth's tears at the end of PotC 2 are more about the first person she's ever killed, - cause the Dutchman sailors she fought on the island weren't exactly men any more - and whether Will could understand her becoming a murderess, rather than a too-late realization that she's in love with Jack.
But yeah, I can see her wanting to get Jack back anyway. He's a friend, still, and why wouldn't she want to take back the murder she committed, no matter how justified?

That's rather how I interpreted her reaction as well. On the whole, while the movie is a fun romp, it lacked something. Quite possibly it was the fact that this is very obviously the first part of the next movie, or perhaps it was the fact that the ending rather undermined the whole point of the first movie. The first one, at least for Jack, was about getting the Pearl back and getting revenge on the person who betrayed him. To me if feels like his appearance, alive and un-cursed, cheapened that somehow.

actually, if you think about it, what is Listerine other than mostly alcohol?

What is rum?

And how many time do pirates get sluiced with sea water?

And how often do we presume Elizabeth bathes? (I don't know what the actual bathing rate for the time period is, or the frequency of tooth brushing, either, really).

I mean, yeah, he probably stinks, but then, so did a lot of folks.
