Things I am not allowed to buy:

1. A sewing machine.
2. A sewing machine.
3. A sewing machine.
4. A sewing machine.
5. A sewing machine.

So...are you allowed to buy a sewing machine?

can you use a sewing machine? cos that'd stop me from getting one.

Oh, yeah. The only reason I'm not using the one I have now is because it's missing parts I can't find at local stores and I'm not about to mail-order them. Besides, I've had this one since college -- I could stand to pick up a new one. (Considering how much watching this much Project Runway is making me itch to sew again.)

then go right ahead! not that you need my permission :)

That doesn't say anything about a serger or an embroidery machine.

Sergers are too hard to use, anyway. D:

Can you at least buy pie? Pie will get you through times of no sewing machines better than sewing machines will get you through times of no pie.

I think.

This would not work for me. I can actually picture living the rest of my life without pie. This is not possible for sewing machine.

Why yes, I am pathetic, thank you. %-}

Even if you can find one at Goodwill for less than $25?

If I could, which I can't. I checked it out this past week when I was "school shopping" for clothes.

The only thing I really NEED to get the old sewing machine to work is a new bobbin casing, or whatever they call that stupid little metal thing the bobbin goes in. But it's been a bitch finding it around here.

So this is a bad time to mention that I've been meaning to get around to selling one of mine?

*huggles and kisses her Kenmore*

This thing? I think I might just buy her a Best Friends charm.

She was a little surly with me last night, though, because I wasn't letting her distract me from Project Runway. I think she was jealous that I was so interested in the industrial machines that Angela was going through like an Irishman at a pub crawl.

I also think she's a little miffed at me that I've had her working on a quilt, and not designer-wear. She thinks I should spend even MORE money on fabric. I don't have the heart to show her my bank account.

I'm working on a quilt! No really, I am. I just need to finish unpacking first.

Hee and yay!

Oh, this quilt... it will be the death of me. I started it a year ago, intending to give it to my parents for Christmas for their new queen-sized bed. Then I got started on Christmas presents, and ended up in the hospital for a bit, so... it never got finished. So I've been working on it steadily since the spring, and honestly, I never thought a stack of 2-inch squares would be so annoying and take so long to sew together.

...all 1,296 of them. What was I thinking?? *headdesk*

The only thing I really need to get my sewing machine working is the bobbin casing (I think that's what you call that metal thing the bobbin sits in -- it must have fallen out of the machine when my mother tossed it into the attic and it's been missing ever since). But I've had a ridiculous time finding one to replace it. *sigh*

*sad hugs* I'm guessing you must have a fairly esoteric or older model?

My best friend had this ancient 1960's Singer (I think) - she called it "grubby kitchen pink;" I'd describe it as "dirty Pepto Bismol."

Loophole: I notice you refer to "a sewing machine", singular. There's nothing to stop you from buying two sewing machines and donating one to a needy friend.

*tries to look needy*

When FRE leaves, I'm getting her [mini sewing machine], since her coworkers got her a full-sized one as a parting gift.

Isn't it? It can only do one kind of stitch, and only slowly and through moderately-thick fabric, but a sewing machine! Whee! I'll be able to fix all my t-shirts with the too-long sleeves!

EEee! But sheer adorability more than makes up for any of its disadvantages!

It reminds me of my mom's old Barbie sewing machine, probably just because it is wee.

I have one of those, but I've had a bitch of a problem getting it to work. I really wish I could just find the part I'm missing for my grown-up sewing machine. *grumbles*

Nuh uh. EVERYONE needs sewing machines.

Besides, then I could send you patterns to test for PlushieSam and PlushieDean.

Because I already had patterns for plushie weapons from a past project, that's why.

I have a lovely little Pfaff 1016. It sews four stitches-straight, straighter, straightest, and backwards.

And it was under $100. I'm just sayin'.
