Well, I finally caught this week's Project Runway, and I have a confession to make.

I loved Jeffrey's dress.

Yeah, I said it. I did. I liked the deconstruction that Santino was trying to do all along and failed at, I liked the high front slit, I even liked the yellow plaids. Granted, I can't think of anywhere I could wear a dress like that -- the MTV Video Awards come to mind, but my favorite was Kayne's dress and at least that I could wear to Dragoncon -- but given the opportunity and the chance, I probably would.

I think what gets me about the dress is that everybody else looked at "two days" and "couture" and squeaked, "ACK! How the hell am I supposed to make a gorgeous couture dress in two days without making a lot of sloppy mistakes?!" Jeffrey went in a direction I liked -- take that sloppiness that you're bound to have in constructing a dress in two days and go with it.

Also, I liked the fact that for once with a winning designer, he didn't say, "Well, I've got immunity, so I can send anything I want down the runway." No, he said, "Yeah, I have immunity, but I want to try and win again, damn it." Yeah, he's an asshole, but at least he's not making the same smug crack I've heard enough. With that second attitude, I'm getting the chance to see someone actually try, or sound like it, if you want to get technical.

Plus, he gets points for annoying the hell out of Crazy Vincent with his shaver. Heh.

Um, I may have liked Jeffrey all episode long. SEND HELP.

Okay, the other dresses:

Kayne -- PRETTY. God, I love corset tops when done right, and that one was lovely. And I happened to like the skirt on that one, too.

Uli -- You know, I'll admit I think it's got the Uli touches, but done right. That dress looked divine.

Michael -- Yes, it had execution problems. But let's be honest ... at least Michael's not anywhere in Vincent's land of happy fluffy delusions and realizes the mistakes he's made in the dress. And when the judges told him to tuck in the little half-moon things on the front, I was like, "YES." From the minute I first saw that gown, I was thinking that that was EXACTLY what that dress could have used.

Laura -- Oh, honey. Three months pregnant? Are we counting according to time on Pluto or something? At this rate, this kid's going to be signed up to play quarterback for the Giants before he leaves the womb.

Oh, right, the dress. Uh, scary? I mean the collar, of course, because the rest of it was toneless and blah. You know those cartoons of vultures and condors and stuff with the little white ruffs around their necks? Yeah, that's where my mind went.

Vincent -- I agree with Nina. The back was FAR more interesting if it had been used as the front. But glue. GLUE, for crying out loud. I wanted to reach through the screen and strangle him. I mean, come on, even I could whip together a passable enough basting for a hem without resorting to fucking GLUE. Oh, and that fabric choice looks vaguely like the thirty-years-out-of-date wallpaper on my office walls.

Also, another season of Top Chef is coming up. Ah, Top Chef. The show I never really wanted to watch, until all of a sudden I was writing Harold/Stephen slash and calling for Tiffani's head on a platter with a sprig of parsley and some fig-stuffed gnocchi shoved into her ears. Sheesh, I barely ever cook anything more complicated than mac and cheese. Well, at least the Kateybot's gone this season. *snickers*

Apparently, Bravo's reality shows own my immortal soul. This can't be good.

I liked Jeffrey's dress... and sadly, I really want to like Jeffrey himself, but he makes it so difficult!

I also thought Kayne's dress was just stunning... the diagonal design of the corset was very sexy, and the skirt was to-die-for. Maybe it was fugly in person, but on my tv, I thought it had a chance to win.

Michael, though. Michael is my FAVORITE. I'm so glad he's still in it, and I really want him to win... he's so nice and thoughtful about his designs, and he (mostly) turns out quality work.

And OMG YAY first Angela, and now Vincent!! *dance*

What makes me happy about this season right now is that I cannot WAIT for Fashion Week, no matter who ends up in it. Out of the five designers left, only Jeffrey is someone I dislike as a person. Uli, Michael, Kayne, and Laura are all great, snarky, funny designers with distinctly different styles whom I'd love to see runway shows from. And while Jeffrey's behavior pisses me off for the most part, I'm finding myself more and more curious (in a good way) about what his runway show might look like as well.

Honestly, Laura annoys me quite a lot. She seems very controlling and manipulative, in a mom way. I mean, it makes sense, but I wouldn't want to spend any time around her.

And I think Jeffrey, despite the giant asshat he can be, is a lot like those crazy runway designers you always see, but can't ever imagine wearing in the real world. He's not great for ready-to-wear, but his runway work would definitely be fascinating to see, like moving art.

As long as he doesn't speak.

The scary thing is, I think that's why she appeals to me. That IS my mother, without the expensive luggage full of cocktail dresses and red lipstick. I'm used to it by now. :)

I have a suspicion that Jeffrey is not as much of an ass as the editing has made him look. I mean, the show *has* to have a bad guy, right?

also, i suspect in person, Kayne's must have looked worse. reading Tim's Take suggests that it's really horrific; i think that maybe our tvs blur the details. Tim goes on about the visible boning, which I couldn't see on my tv, so one has to wonder.

That's what I suspected... it certainly worked on tv, though. I guess maybe Kayne should stick to pageant work, where no one will see his garments up-close?

I disagreed with Tim as soon as he made the remark about the visible boning. I'd have to see it in person to be sure, but I actually think it was an interesting thing to do on purpose.

I just kept looking at everyone who went on and on about how "too much" it was and saying, "Two words, folks: Alexander McQueen." There is a place for over-the-top, and yes, part of that place is in couture. Kayne did exactly what he was told to do, in the bracket of that realm where he happens to be comfortable.

That was exactly what I was thinking. There was a point in my life (before google) when I thought couture meant "crazy over-the-top stuff nobody can really wear in real life" just based on what I'd seen of it. Kayne's gown fit that perfectly, as far as I could tell.

Dude, Kayne took the back of that dress from Wendy Pepper's wedding gown and we all hate Wendy Pepper, right?

I loved this challenge, but mostly because none of them are couture designers, even in the more common sense of the word (rather than the strict legal name that the French government gives to you). So it was really fun to watch them try and scramble. I have to admit, I liked Jeffery's the best too. **stabs self**

Laura has five kids. Trust me ... after two kids, your body remembers the proportions you're supposed to be when yer preggers and pops right out there. When I was pregnant with #3, I looked seven months pregnant at 2 months. And I stayed looking 7 months all the way up to month 8. :)

I just find it amusing that last week PR-time she was as flat as a board and then she finds out she's pregnant and WHOOSH, out it goes. ;)

I can't help but feel poor Kayne keeps getting shafted. So the boy likes the sparkle. *wails* Is thata crime!?

Seriously, though, I feel like the minute his model steps on the runway, the judges just roll their eyes and say, "it's another glittery Kayne pageant dress" and dismiss it out of hand. At least with Vincent, that prejudice is, y'know, justified. And even that they dismissed for the "design for mom" challenge!

I didn't like Jeffrey's dress at all until I saw it on his New York model. Suddenly it hip and young instead of like a tablecloth, so I don't know whether to credit Jeffery or if his model was just that good. It's not really an evening dress, but I could easily see someone wearing it to some kind of summery afternoon event.

I was just so happy Vincent got kicked off I didn't care who won. I'll never have to hear about what turns him on ever, ever again. I just wish he could have left before I had to watch his smarmy attempts at flirting. Ew.

Marilinda's an awesome model. I didn't like her at first, but as the season's gone on it's pretty obvious that she and Jeffrey work well together, she's got the right attitude to show his stuff, and she's rock and roll enough to look right in whatever he puts on her.

I thought Jeffrey's dress was ok, but then his NY model strutted in it and then I really liked it.

I loved Kayne's dress, but I also have to wonder if it did look kind of gaudy in person. But it was so shiny and the corset was gorgeous and the skirt was so flowy!

Micheal's, to me it looked like it needed a little going over with an iron.

I cheered and may have given a little dance when Vincent was kicked off. Finally.

Just watched myself last night, and haven't seen any other opinions, so I didn't know mine wasn't popular.

I loved Jeffrey's dress. They were dead-on with the observation about how much of a kick Marilinda got out of wearing it.

And I say this while still thinking Jeffrey himself is a pathetic self-absorbed f**kwit. Fortunately, he's already working in one of the few arenas (i.e. the pop music industry) where that's actually proven to be a viable personal choice.

As near as I can tell, all responses seem to be evenly divided into "loved it" and "hated it", with almost no middle ground. I'm absolutely in the latter category, because it made no sense to me and didn't seem at all flattering, but I did see that the model was having fun with it. So...

This is why haute couture makes my head hurt. :P

I loved Kayne's dress. The diagonal corset was elegant and looked like something someone with actual breasts might wear. It's great too because it wouldn't look bad scaled up to normal not-supermodel size. I wouldn't wear Jeffrey's plaid thing or Laura's creature of the night costume, but I'd totally wear Kayne's shiny gold thingy.

I was actually thinking the biggest problem he suffered was none of these women had the boobs to pull that off.

His Paris model was better, but his New York model was barely keeping it on there. It's a dress for women who actually have some curves, and I love that.

The worst part about Vincent using glue? Was that he kept saying (and still is, if you read his exit interview in EW) that he's the only one that knows couture, and that his dress was the only couture dress on that runway.

Ummm. Wacky.

Kayne's dress was my favorite too. That skirt was gorgeous.

Bravo reality television owns mine too. I have both sworn to not watch Top Chef this season and already picked my pre-game favorites (Suyai, Frank, and Cliff). Save me plz.

I LOVED Jeffrey's dress. Just so you know :)I thought it looked comfy and punky and hip and so happy. I loved that he wanted it to be happy.

I also really liked Kayne's -- I think they automatically go, "Oh, god, Kayne, another pageant dress," and ignore the fact that, uh, it's not busy, it's well-done layers of thick textured fabric balanced by smooth flowy gown. And the twist on the corset matching the stripes of cloth, and the functional lacing, and oh.
