Did you ever read something that you wrote a while back and just kind of sit back in amazement that you were the one who wrote it? Kind of a happy proud little moment?

I had one of those today. Sitting on a bus, reading through my novel. Sort of a crappy place to have it, but there you go.

I really, really need to get this thing done and over with. Getting published before I die ... yeah, probably a good thing.

Oh, and just out of curiosity, can you guys think of any really great songs that make you think of vampires, magic, the supernatural, etc.? I'm trying to mix a really good mini-disc to rewrite my book to and I want to fill the sucker.

"Red Right Hand," Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
"Down in the Park," Foo Fighters.
"Dead Man's Party", Oingo Boingo. Okay, it's peppy and light, but kinda dark at the same time.

Might want to look into getting the "Queen of the Damned" soundtrack... and you could include Marilyn Manson's "Long Long Road Out Of Hell" from the Spawn soundtrack...

'Book of the Month' -- Lovage
'Black, Black Heart' -- David Usher
'Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)' -- Concrete Blonde
'Ashes' and/or 'Until You Call On the Dark' -- Danzig
'The Thing That Should Not Be' -- Metallica
'Haunted' -- Poe
'Figlio Perduto' -- Sarah Brightman
'Anmorata' -- Switchblade Symphony
'Dark Angel' -- VnV Nation
'Blood, Milk, and Sky' -- White Zombie

Leave it to a horror writer to have lovely things like this on her playlist. ;)

Heh. I have my list of vampire songs--

(ditto the above "Bloodletting" from Concrete Blonde, though I also adore their "The Beast", in a morbid sort of adore; and I also have, like, ten million songs from a Nosferatu musical, sung by a guy named Peter Karrie)

--but most of those aren't easily available. Well, you could probably get CB's stuff, but the Nosferatu stuff isn't all that easy to come by, and I don't really have the capacity to copy 'em for you.

So this is really a not-at-all helpful comment! But I'm making it anyway, 'cause I'm procrastinating on writing up comments on student papers, yo.

~voodoo by Godsmack
~bloodletting as seen already, but I third the motion on that one
~enter sandman by Metallica, or anything off the black album really
~veteran of the psychic wars by Blue Oyster Cult and ~blue lamp by Stevie Nicks off of the Heavy Metal Soundtrack for some reason they remeind me of reading vampire stories as a kid
~furnace room lullaby by Neko Case & Her Boyfriends because it is just sort of wonderfully creepy

~and a vote for Warren Zevon's American Werewolf in London, because Warren ROCKS, and I would add his version of Knock knock knockin' on heaven's door, too.

oh, and maybe in-a-godda-da-vida by Iron Butterfly, too.

Ok, I gotta stop this now, I need to make myself a vampire CD.

Diary of Dreams - lots of dark, gothic songs

Anthrax, 'Not an Exit' on their White Noise album has always sounded like it was from a vampire's point of view.

Stabbing Westward, Queen of the Damned soundtrack.
