YAY! It's that time of year again!
Nov. 6th, 2006 11:44 amHoliday wishlist time, that is. I like making ye olde holiday wishlist. Hey, if I can't afford to get any of the stuff on it, at least I can make the wish, right? ;) (And I can always try to hit some stuff on other people's wishlists, too.)
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
What I'd like for Christmas ...
1. A new car. (Hey, they said I can wish for anything, right?) Well, not a NEW new car, although that would be nice, too, but Joe Bag O'Lugnuts needs retiring and I can barely afford to get him new tires, much less pick up a new baby at the used car dealership.
2. Fic. Fic is always of the good. Fic makes me happy, especially the smutty kind. ;)
3. Books. I like romance novels (except contemporary ones unless there's magic or vampires or something in them) and true crime and history (although mostly disaster stories) and fantasy and horror novels. I used to have a whole bunch but I never had the space for them, and every time I moved I just donated a whole bunch to the library. But now I've got five thousand extra rooms in my apartment so now I do have the space. :)
4. Clothes. I'm a size small or medium in shirts (medium for T-shirts because I like them a little roomy, and medium in most everything else except tank tops) and a size seven or five in jeans (always flares) depending on what I've had to eat lately. Some days I can get away with wearing a five, some days I'm in a seven. I'll take anything -- I know how to sew, so I can always alter them or salvage the material for scrap or whatever if they don't fit.
5. Speaking of my sewing machine, I need a bobbin case for a Brother VX-1120 sewing machine. Because, er, I can't run mine without the bobbin case and it's missing.
6. An MP3 player that fits more than 1GB. I miss having a 40GB MP3 player. *sigh*
7. Go donate blood or give money to a worthy cause or something and tell me what you did. I like it when people go out and do good deeds and hey, it's free. :)
8. A new job would be nice. (Getting published would be nicer, but I'll get there eventually. *crosses fingers*)
9. Blank books and pens and ... you know, writing stuff. I loathe wide-ruled notebooks (what a waste of space, man!) and ballpoint pens (gel pens have spoiled me), but everything else makes me goofy. You should see me in a Staples. I'm deranged. *snickers*
10. Well ... uh, I can't think of anything else for measide from Jensen Ackles wrapped up in a great big bow, but that's REALLY wishful thinking, so I think the chinchilla might really like a wheel to run in.
If anybody wants my address to send me stuff, email me at the address in my userinfo and I'll send it out.
Okay, now to get dressed, go buy booze, and see how much writing I can get done before Heroes tonight. *rubs hands together in anticipation*

7 - I'm afraid to, despite what my doctor says. I get hideous migraines, some days, just from lifting heavy boxes. But I did donate 75 cents to charity Sunday.
