I kind of want to go to Staples now. Heh.

You know, I do still like Karen but she's gotten so self-conscious about Jim's feelings for Pam. Not that I blame her. Poor sweetheart. I want to give her a great big hug and tell her, "Sweetie, I am so sorry, but Jim and Pam are, well, JIMANDPAM. And the sooner the two of them smarten up and realize that, the better."

And them playing pranks just ... AWW. I just want them to smish together and Jim can get a real job where he can be in control and have fun and be the snarky boss you love and Pam can try to work on her art and they can just be adorable together FOREVER.

Meanwhile, my favorite part of the episode had to be when Michael went to get Dwight at Staples and "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong" was playing on the Muzak in the background. BWAHAHAHA! Heh, that's one of the many reasons I love this show. Just those little things in the background that make me squeal.

OOO, and Dwight and Angela! Angela just all lovelorn and heartbroken and wanting Dwight back! For two characters I wouldn't be able to put up with if I had to work with them I think they're so cute together.

As for Andy ... dude, you know you've gone too far when even Michael thinks you're creepy. Most of the time Michael's actions make me squirm with embarrassment, but every once in a while he just acts so sad and lonely and normal that it's easier to sympathize with him. And that thing that he said about wanting people to kiss his ass because they like him and not because he's the boss? That so describes the relationship between Dwight and Michael, and they LIKE it that way.

I still have to watch tonight's Grey's Anatomy, too. I just caught a glimpse on some entertainment show of Isaiah Washington grabbing the mike backstage at the Golden Globes and changed the channel as fast as I could. Isn't knowing that he's that big of an idiot enough? Do I actually have to SEE it? *eye roll*

Oh, dear, but I do hate Andy. He wasn't so bad at first, but now he just doesn't stop being annoying... ever. My mother watches the show religiously, and loathes Steve Carrell, right? And yesterday during a commercial she turns to me and says, "You know, any character that makes Michael seem normal and unannoying has to go."

Also, Mexican Lemonade!

Oh, I hated the boss on the British version, but the weird thing about Michael is that I don't hate him, I mostly just feel sorry for him. He's just so damn needy and desperate for attention because he doesn't have anything to go home to, and the only person at work who shows him the least bit of respect is Dwight.

And unfortunately Andy, whom I really hope Dwight and Jim team up to get rid of, because that would be AWESOME. As pathetic and sad as Michael can be, Andy's twice as bad and takes it right over the line into creepy as hell.

Yes, exactly! (I am so glad you posted; as soon as I finished watching the episode I was like, "Gah, this requires much discussion on the internets!") For me, it's that David Brent in the UK version always seemed so much angrier than Michael does. Andy gives off that same angry vibe, which is much more uncomfortable for me to watch than any of Michael's social awkwardness.

Exactly! Michael's uncomfortable to be around, but that's because he likes most of these people and wants to impress them. I think the big difference is that he means well, and I never really got that impression from David Brent.

I mean, he's awkward and loud and stupid, but he's like a big dumb puppy who bounces around your foyer when you come home and pees all over in excitement and barks loudly and knocks over things with his big thwappy tail.

I just keep thinking back to when that guy from Stamford got another job behind Jan's back and fucked up the merger, and Jim said, "Say what you will about Michael Scott, but he would NEVER do that." Because, YES. As sad and weird as it is, Michael loves this job.

That's a very accurate description of Michael. ;-) I come back to Jim's "Say what you will..." thing a lot, too. He likes these people, and wants to be liked by them in turn. As you said, he does mean well, and he does care what other people think, and that makes him a lot easier to empathize with.
